hi i just wanted to know if anyone has the same problem with the stock thermometer that it stinks lol if so what do you use instead?  If wired probe how did you run the cable pics would be great thanks

p.s im a newbee  but enjoy learning to smoke
 
My stock therm doesn't stink...all I smell is good smoke from my Vault...

Have you calibrated it? Easy to do, really. I doubt there are any OEM thermometers that are calibrated out of the box, so you gotta do that before cooking with it...mine was reading about only about 20* low, so not that bad.

If you run a probe lead, you can do it without mods...just pass the probe down through the exhaust vent. If cooking on multiple grates and you need to pull grates out, run the lead behind the grates to the grate level you want to probe...that way the probe lead stays out of the way.
