Building my first smoker

Hi all, new guy here, looking for information and advice while building my new smoker. It's a lang 60 knockoff with a wide trailer so the smoker is on one side and the regular bbq pit is on the other. Also will have wood basket and wide shelving.

I came across a piece of 24" 3/8" pipe so I've decided to build 2 of them while I'm at it. I built both trailers last weekend and also cut the pipe so I'll soon be asking for some help.

This is a great forum and I appreciate the kindness and respect you show each other. What a great place to be.

Welcome to the forum!! I"m sure those with Langs will be able to give you some advice. Although I have seen pics of Lang type cookers with drawings somewhere on the net that explain the reverse flow concept. (Langs are reverse flow aren't they?)

Here's a few pics of the trailers. I'm building these at my country place in South Texas. It was 105' degrees there saturday.

The first trailer took 8 hours because I designed it as I went and there was also a few beer and tequila breaks since my buddy Ken was there.

The second trailer took about 2 hours.

The trailer is made out of 3" channel and I used a 2000lb axle kit, hitch coupling and jack w/wheel from Husky Trailers.

Total cost for each trailer about $225. Beer and tequila about $40.

I use a Millermatic 211 AutoSet with .035 solid wire and argon sheilding gas. Also use a Miller Spectrum 375 Plasma Cutter.

nice how do like the 211 it is fairley new to the market i have tested them for performance. looks like your on to a great build so keep us posted with lots of pics. also you need a mixed gas with solid wire like c25 or 92/8 work great on this type of app.

The 211 is really nice. I used the auto set and had to adjust it down a little but once I got it right it worked really nice. I learned on a 140 (which I still have) and decided to go a little bigger. Glad I did. Also using solid wire is the only way to go. The flux core is so stinky and messy I'll never use it again. I taught myself to weld and the 211 makes me look much better than I am. LOL
