Anybody got any good ideas for wood storage? I think I need to build a shed of some type. If like to use reclaimed pallets that I have access to.

I had some hickory and cherry I left on a pallet all year and I think it might be ruined. It was not covered. It's good and dry, and has turned a grayish color. Not sure if I can still use it to smoke with?

I'm thinking an 8ft by 8ft raised structure (it would be located on a hillside with open space underneath.) With a covered top section to place my various stacks of seasoned wood in, and a slatted shelf underneath that would be covered from rain above but still have plenty of airflow to season green wood.

Any good tips for keeping critters and bugs out of it? Namely snakes and wasps/hornets. I'm guessing mothballs are out of the question as it would likely penetrate the wood.

Under that weathered look is good wood, do not despair.
As to storage, you can buy a rack built for the purpose fairly cheap and you can get a zippered cover to match the size of the rack.

I'm planning on building a 10' x 20' wood storage shed. I'll attach some photos which show the general direction I'm going in. Obviously, I'm open to any other suggestions or helpful photos. My question is about the foundation or base. I have a local sawmill about 5 miles away where I plan to buy rough cut hemlock for least some of the project. Digging holes for footers will be a PITA, as I'm sitting on shale. I was thinking about those deck blocks and 4" x 4" PT posts, but it may look a little wimpy. The 6" x 6" PT posts would be nice but pricey. I would just go with rough cut 6 x 6's but if I am correct, the deck blocks are designed for dimensional lumber (a 4 x 4 and actually a 3.5 x 3.5). I was planning on using rough cut 1 x 6's for the floor. I'd like to get my firewood up off the ground.

Any suggestions/photos would be appreciated! Thanks!

Here's my wood storage project for this summer.
I need to do some earthwork to make a level spot but this is the best solution to my wood storage issues.
I'm going with some form of brick for the base under the mat.
I've used a rack with a water proof cover in the past and the spiders, rats and wood roaches thanked me very much.

Rack of your choice. Cover with a piece of roofing tin of your choice. The weathered appearance will not affect the wood at all. Covering it with a tarp or putting it in a building with no air flow while it is green will affect it, it will rot. I let my fire wood which is coincidentally the wood I also use to smoke stay outside for minimum of a year before it goes under a roof. I may or may not throw a piece of tin over it if it’s handy and I think about it.

I bet your spiders, roaches and rodents thank you very much for the vermin condo.

I got a 18 x 30 metal building form Alan's factory outlet. I designed a shed roof the same size and did shingles and metal priced out. The building to build it myself came to the same cost as Alan's to put it up with sides on it and I didn't have to do anything except wait for them to show up and make the stone base, which I would have had to do anyways.
