Have seen quite a few QViews of smokers with bricks inside......has anyone done much research on the use of them for temp. stabalization or regulation. Seems like it should be a pretty sound practice in theory and especially for those of us living in colder climates.....RICK

I didn't look into it much, I just did it. I had 1 1/4 in. bricks inside my wall tent stove, and thought it helped hold heat much better so it seemed logical that it would serve as a heat sink in my smoker. So I put some in the floor of it. I think I get less heat loss when I do a quick peek, and quicker recovery time. I did some turkeys a year ago on a windy -20 deg. day. That was when I knew I needed a little extra. Heres a pic of the fire bricks and my heat diffuser in my freezer conversion.

I think the bricks are used for raising the fire source off the bottom of the smoker and also to aborsb the heat and like Mule said to keep from losing heat when you open the door. I also have seen them used to keep the chips/chunks alittle father from the fire/heat source.

Official, documented, authorized, scientific type research? Nope, but after havin em in the gosm fer over a year (jeez, nearly two) it has made a world a difference. Temps er more stable, recovery time is lots faster an a unplanned bonus, it feels lots steadier with the added wieght in the bottom.

At 44 cents each, was a cheap experiment that worked out great.

A line of firebricks in the bottom of the smoker does wonders for a heat sink. Helps in returning the heat to temp. when you just Have to look inside.I also have my fire box lined to decrease the temp. drop as I feed the Girl.A real headache remedy.

Adding bricks will be a good heat sink and help maintain temps...
