Old beer cans would do for cheap molds.
I was thinking of using them initially.  I think "tall boy" 24 oz cans would probably work better if they are wider.  I can't recall if they are simply taller or if they are wider than their 12 oz comrades.  It's been awhile since I've had one.

Oh!  I just now realized that you mean cutting old beer cans and using the cans themselves instead of a mold for the foil!  I would never do that.  Being a Michigan resident, beer cans have a 10 cent deposit here.  I'm sure the aluminum foil is far cheaper.

Thanks for the kind words everyone!  Glad to see you are still alive and kicking, Bear!

The only thing about silicon molds is they will pick up flavors. So using them in smoker will limit what you use them for later. I used some for a fish souffle and now they have a fishy taste and anything I cook in them will get a slight fish taste to it. My kids thought is would be a good idea to soak some other ones with soap and water, now all I can taste is soap in the muffins and brownies..........

Smoked egg sandwiches look great. Will have to play with this one too...
Duly noted.  For $9 a pop, I think I can dedicate one to eggs & stuff for the smoker & oven use only.
