What Payson said makes sense to me, but hey boss, sorry I stirred up the cowpie so to speak.

So Clyde, noted your occupation listed as "Smokyokie's sous chef", you would be SmokyOky's (Tim's) wife Cindy then?
I recall Tim's wife being introduced by Tim as his "sous chef" at The Gathering.

No, Mike, he fired her and hired me. Since then, he's fired me and hired someone else. Moody sort, he is. I guess I really should update my profile, but you know how lazy us pigs are. The weather's been too good for laying around in the mud to do anything else.

What....you didn't have a Class Six card when you were in the service????

I used to shop the base Class Six (Liquor) store with two shopping carts every pay day.

We had an after hours bar in our dorm room.

At the risk of this thread getting deleted I would like to throw in my two cents. I buy American as much as I can. That does not mean I buy only American, there are personal economic issues at hand here. It is also very hard to buy mostly American products, but being from a steel making town and family I have been trying for my whole life for the sake of the community and myself. American is not always the best quality, and I fault no one for buying the best quality, only my fellow Americans for not making the best in everything. I have no issues with a craftsman in another land toiling and making a better product and doing it cheaper if he is happy with his quality of life while he does it, as a matter of fact I see him as a brother. He has the same weeds in his garden and the same troubles with his teenage daughters.

Now I know that the keeper of this forum, in a fairly wise move would like to keep potentionally explosive topics away. I would like to offer up a suggestion that there be an "OFF OFF TOPIC" for just such disscussions. Arguments are a great way to get to know each other and differences are the colors and flavor of life.

i don't agree or disagree w/ that ... most companies overseas are american companies or american investors using cheaper labor & fewer environmental restrictions- but i do know this for fact. american steel is better quality - just try pawning chinese sttel tools-thats why craftsman & not chin lee is the official tool of nascar.

Back in the 60's the Japanese were shipping cheap stuff to the US and everyone made fun of products made in Japan - look at them today!

The Chinese seen to be taking the same steps. I wonder who their Edward Deming will be?

I wont get into the quality argument. Quality is quality. There are certian political and economic conditions that apply to almost every aspect of international trade that go far beyond what almost any one understands including those involved at the highest levels.

But I do enjoy a well thought argument (I seem to loose alot of them though)

An open forum for these kinds of disscussions is where we should be and a no holds barred match allowed, but these places seem to deteriorate very fast.

I do like animated disscussions with folks that I share some common ground with.

Well, folks, I just have to pop in my $.02.

This is a Smoking Q site, not a political forum or sound off venue.
All are welcome to occasionally voice an opinion which might get an animated discussion started....

But the bottom line, and the line we will hold is that we are a nonpolitical, all are welcome great food site.

If you wanna sound off there are sites to suit every need. This one will fill your smoking needs!

Cheers!

There is something about Walmart that I don't see mentioned here, which is why I stopped shopping there along time ago, but still shop at Kmart when needed...

The reason that Walmart no longer advertises "Made in America" is because they were caught in a lie. They would advertise that slogan on individual racks of clothing (As an example), have only one or two garments actually Made in America, and then the rest on the same rack elsewhere! They were actually defrading the public...

So at least at KMart, I know what I'm getting.

I applaud anybody who tries to support American products when possible, because when we don't, our middle class loses jobs with decent pay and benefits, which will effect our way of life.

I read in the paper more and more about companies taking away retirement benefits, or fighting in court to take money out of pension plans designed for the workers, even civil service jobs now, Sacramento County just took away health retirement benefits, for all employees who haven't retired yet. These are measures managers are doing when faced with global competition.

So I believe when someone thinks they are saving a little by shopping at a cheaper store, in the long run they will be paying much much more.

Bout time to let this one DIE and get back to talking smoking.

Jeff - how bout blowing this outta here. You tried to get the hint across to them, didn't take.

Six pages of post, some 60 post, counting this one. Seems to be something that folks want to talk about, even the ones that don't want it seem to be posting. I would rather see it moved to a safer area than just swept away.

The worst part of the topic is that it is not faceless companies or machines doing the evil, it is people doing it to other people and people doing it to themselves. People are the weak link and people are the strength, where you are and what you do is up to you.
