At work I have been stepping into the digital publishing realm for the past year and its taken off.  Well I wanted to create a few books just to show case my skills and my companies.  I thought about doing a book on BBQ but I'm lost in what to do..  Any ideas??  Maybe a few recipe best books??  Smokers in general?  Picture off of BBQ?

Think outside the box... paruse forums , pick interesting "regular" BYC's , PM them for a Phone# and have interviews of thier methods and practices . Include all types of smokers (Elec. , Gas , Wood , Solar...).

Not as much on recipes as to the different 'brands' / 'types ' of cookers . A Shopper's guide to BBQ's , so to speak for those looking to get into the fun.

Suggesting sizes i.e.- Apt./Condo , Back yard , Occasional , Party size and so on.

Have fun and hope your publications take off , and as always...

it be fun to do a recipe book based on smokers

Well, sounds like a great idea.  There are so many ways you could go with a BBQ Book.  It is tough because there are so many recipe books etc. and even a good number of books covering the basics.

I like oldschools idea of interviewing BYC's because it could show you don't have to be an expert cook or competitor to do some good que.  You could also put in more info (maybe) on how some have built their own smokers etc.

I would like to do that. Too much representation out there in TN that only restaurants can cook BBQ and some I've been into are a joke and they treat their pork like a joke.

It's great that you're writing a BBQ book. How about a book to include all the mods/tricks you can make on store bought cookers?

I'm in the process of writing a cookbook myself, about award winning BBQ recipes. As you can imagine, the more successful competitive cooks out there haven't been receptive to the idea...understandably so. But I am trying to attract those willing to use an old recipe or a simplified version. It's going to be a challenge.

Good luck!

maybe we should get together!!  I code and design now for apple and amazon..  I just want to make a book how it should be..  and for my love of BBQ!

I'm still getting my feet wet, but by the end of this process, I'll have a good idea what to do next time. I'm currently working with Skyhorse publishing on this book and I hope it leads to more because I'm risking a lot if I don't get the job done. There are so many great BBQ books out there, it's gonna be hard to stand out. I'm always open for future collaborations.
