If you have the dual sided cast iron plancha griddle, does it take the place of the ceramic plate insert? Or, for indirect heat do you still need the plate?

You could certainly use the cast iron griddle as a heat deflector and in place of the ceramic deflector. It might radiate heat a little more then ceramic but the Goldens cast iron Kamado style cooker seems to do just fine using all CI..

I got a cast iron platesetter to replace my broken ceramic, and seems to work fine.
