A visit to the local butcher shop where I obtained 5 pounds of ground beef fat.

Into the small crock pot on low.

After about 5 hours

Ran through a mesh strainer then a super fine mesh strainer and finally through cheese cloth.

Each container holds 2 cups of liquid gold.

5 Pounds resulting in 6 cups of the good stuff!

I used to pour into Mason Jars but they were always a pain to get it back out. These containers will allow me to pop each block out once it's solidified. I can then use as much or little as needed for whatever experiment comes next.

thats one thing i have yet to enjoy. i hear its tasty cooking oil. if its half as good as duck fat its worth the effort.

No effort really other than the straining. It's wonderful for frying things in. So many other uses!

Uhh, how do you get 6 lb of tallow from 5 lb of fat?

Overnight in the refrigerator to solidify- pure white magic!

That's why I filter it so many times.

2.78 pounds (1263 grams) from 4.91 pounds of fat.

The original cost was right around $10 for the bag.
The rendered and filtered cost would be like $3.59/pound. Pretty sure you can't buy it for less.

It's even good for pouring on pink butcher paper before wrapping a rack of ribs or brisket or pork shoulder if you're into wrapping.
...or eating by the spoonful if you are keto! To curb the munchies...instead of grabbing junk or processed food....like chips. I need to go talk to my butcher and get some ribeye and brisket trim fat.

Haha! I'm not sure I would go that far, but let us know how it goes!
