How bout a Food Network cooking show concentrating on smoking and bbq'ing meats, sides, rubs, sauces, and styles.

Im kinda surprised this hasnt happened yet (unless I just dont know about it). The closest thing we've had was the BBQ Pitmasters on TLC.

I think this would be a great concept, and opportunity for someone to pitch to the Food Network (again, Im not sure this hasnt already happened).

Thoughts?

I personally think it would be great for Food Network to have a show dedicated to the art of smoking meats. The only thing is I hope if they do start a series that they put a host that has the knowledge of smoking meats and not just an actor like some of their shows.

I nominate Jeff as host!!!!!

write them and suggest it. It is all about money though and they need to be convinced that it will make money. A email campain from smokers would help in that area. Just my thoughts

Youre right. I contacted the Food Network via email, I will post any response I receive from them. This is what I emailed them...

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has ever approached the Food Network about doing a show on the art of smoking meat. A weekly show, similar to your other shows, but rather focusing on smoking and bbq'ing meats, sides, rubs, sauces, and styles. There is a whole world of culinary creations out there that is untapped on your station. There are numerous websites and forums dedicated to smoking meat, ie. smokingmeatforums.com etc. If someone has not contacted you specifically about this type of show, I strongly urge you to consider adding such a show to your programming. I know it would be well received by myself, not to mention countless others. Again, I assure you this a huge market of untapped fans. The only consideration I have for the show is to please ensure that there is a quality person with an obvious knowledge of smoking meats, who is not afraid to give away their secrets through years of smoking to host the show. The fans who would be attracted to such a show, would insist that the host exhibited knowledge and would instantly see through someone who was perhaps reading from cue cards. Thanks for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Great idea!! Scripps Network produces The Food Network. They're located here in Knoxville and have announced the rollout of The Cooking Channel. That would be a great place for a show about smoking, grilling, and BBQ'ing. A letter writing campaign from smoking enthusiasts might give them reason to see the popularity of such programming. I'm sure they could find enough sponsors from the assortment of vendors selling smokers, grills, accessories, wood, etc. Business must be good for them. They just moved into a new $30 million building here last week.

Scripps only lists a physical address on their website. I'm going to get a letter in the mail to them tomorrow. I've included a link to both The Cooking Channel announcement and their address below.

Sounds like a awesome show.

Create a Facebook fan page like how Betty White got on SNL. Those things are pretty easy and its basically the same as a email campaign. Just start a page called "we want a smoking meat show on the food network" and spread the word. Its like going door to door and getting signatures.

Now I have been hooked on watching the food network for years now and I have even been to their studios in new york city too. Now they had the show boy meets grill and grillin with bobby flay and he does have a sweet place in brooklyn where he has a putdoor kitchen on the roof top and overlooks the east river right at the brooklyn bridge too. But since that they haven't really had anything else new on that I know of. It would be nice to see something but you should write them with your idea and maybe thye could have a next food network star and give them a bbq show. It's an idea and a good one to me too.
