I know a good deal about Q from mt grandad and father. It's just a southern tradition. Anyway as you know I'm up here in the north. Researched out supplies needed to do the right kind of Q. Ive been getting my "Gourmet" wood from Robbys for awhile. The other day i get an E_Mail about a class being given. The cost doesn't seem to bad considering it includes food. And it's driving distance from me. Not much here up north when it comes to this stuff. What do you all think?

Unless you are going to cook comp style why bother ? I promise you there is enough GREAT info in the pages of this board you don't need a basic class unless you just want to spend the dough and have some fun .

Could be a great time. Depends upon what your expectations are in terms of what you want to come away with. If you have the extra $125 and aren't expecting any earth shattering new techniques then by all means go for it. You will have good eats if nothing else.
But if you are a already experienced smoker you most likely will not find anything really new being offered. Very well could be just a venue for the guy to sell his sauces, rubs accessories etc.

$125 could buy you alot of meat to smoke with and you will most likely find all the answers to any questions you might have right here.

+1.

Teach yourself, any tips you need are easily found here on SMF, or through trial and error.

If you got the dough why not, If I were you I would look at it as a chance to visit one of the few smoker retailers in that neck of the woods which just so happens to be in Elizabeth NJ

looking at there page it appears they are pimping this class so it appears they may be in bed together as they say.

This place is pretty high on there horizons, a couple hundred more on each one compaired to here in the middle of the midwest.

$125 for a buffet lunch with a floor show. Hmmm sounds expensive.

Take out $25 for the lunch and it is still $100 for about 4 hours of info (1 hr for lunch), that you most likely will get for free on the internet and all the free help you can learn off SMF.

$22-24 for a pack of ribs,
$10-12 for a pork butt,
$15-18 for 4 chickens
$15-20 for some veggies

Invite some people you like and have a party with friends.

go for it. $125 is not a bad price, that's what I did and never regret it. you pick up tips and get to pick their mind, also they feed ya! I got 1 tip at a $50 dollar class years ago on briskit and its paid off over and over, $ and awards.
