Ash bucket - Galvanized vs hot dipped galvanized?

Looking to buy an ash bucket for my offset smoker. Should I go with galvanized or hot dipped galvanized?

Hot dipped should be better for the elements of being outdoors..

Not sure which I have , but it's been out there a long time . I use it for the kettles and the fireplace in the house . Just keep it cleaned out after the ashes cool .

I am thinking a 17 gallon will make cleaning out ashes easier. Bigger target. Then maybe a 10 gallon one with lid to store charcoal.

I use a 6 gallon with locking lid for ashes .
20 gallon on my dust collector . Might be a bit big for ashes , but for me a lid was important .

I answered this on Facebook yesterday. I'm still not understanding why you need a bucket.

I use an old aluminum pan. My smoker has an ash dump. Did you get a Bell Fab? I empty the ashes into the pan and throw them in a bag and in ti the garbage.

No, I bought a used smoker. It has a rectangular fire box. I will use a pan like you suggest to see how that goes.

If the ashes are cold, I use nature's ash bin...my yard!

Hot dipped galvanized items will have a rough surface as opposed to a smoother one with being galvanized

To the original question, hot dipped galv and galv are the same thing... All galv is hot dipped except touch ups sprays. which really isn't galvanizing.

For my indoor pellet stove I use a small locking lid galvanized can. For my outside cookers I just dump them on the ground(fill in the holes) when cooled.

DC current applied to the zinc bath becomes zinc plated ?
Thinner and smoother . I think that's how they do the metal studs we used for framing commercial buildings .

Yeah, that's zinc electro-plated, similar to galv in the sense it uses zinc but not dipped or typically called galvanized.
