I recently got the grilldome on craigslist. Grilldome is a cheaper generic. It was super cheap so I thought I should try it out. Grills great, yet to do a low and slow though.

I have a buddy here who uses nothing but his kamado. Its really a great machine and you can walk away and it will take care of itself. Pretty to look at in green tile too, but way too much coin for my tastes...

Yeah, they are pretty much the same thing as the Big Green Egg and there are quite a few teams that compete with just BGEs.

Just looking at the basic design, I'll bet they work very well, very efficiently. My problem is, even the big one's just aren't big enough. I just can't justify spending that much money on something you can't cook as much as much as I want.

YES! I have had one for about five years, its pretty much all I use for everything from low-n-slow to grilling. I got mine on sale (still way too much $) but it is hands down the best all purpose smoker/grill I have ever owned. Just did some pizzas on mine last night and tonight its London broil. I have made breads, pies even baked a cake in mine.

I would strongly suggest you get one if you can swing it.

A LG bag of BGE lump lasts about a month and a half depending on how much you smoke/grill.

Good luck!

I agree with you there. On the grilldome, I've gotten a 1 hour leq 1/4 cook at 350*, one steak cook at a whopping really hot temp, one porkchop cook, and I think one more cook (hamburgers I think) out of one load of royal oak, plus about 1 handfull added each time for lighting it. Works great. Just shut the vents and it goes right out.

I have used mesquite chips once on the hamburgers, and it seems easy to over do it with the smoke if you are not a bit more careful, but other than that it works great.

I measured mine the other night, it's the medium grilldome for $499 I think. I picked it up for $50 on craigslist. Would definitely recommend one, but only if you have money to blow, or you find one cheap like I did.

Like others said, biggest drawback after price is size. Also, it doesn't come with all the things needed for a low and slow cook, which is why I haven't tried it yet.

I'm getting ready to do a low and slow smoke on a 10lb Butt in my large Vision Kamado grille I picked up from Home Depot for $499, with shelfs and cart!  I'll post with results.
