Memorial Day is all about remembering those who lost their lives while in service to our country. I remember twenty eight friends, former flight students, and acquaintances I lost during peacetime flying following Viet Nam, '77 to '87.

This Monday, though, will be a tough day for me. My dad, a Korean War Navy vet, stood at attention last Sunday, May 20th, saluted St Peter, and said "Permission to come aboard."

The echoes of "Permission granted," are still ringing in my ears.

Fair winds and following seas, Pop. Love you. Miss you.

Sorry for your loss . I know its tough . My Dad also served in Korea with the Army . Been gone 5 years now . He was very proud of his service time . Thanks for sharing .
Ray they made us who we are , and nobody can take that from you .

Rest in Peace Ray's Dad, along with all the others.
My Dad was in WW2, as a Mule Skinner (what else would they do with a Farm Boy).
Dad's been gone since '94 though.
My Older Brother's still around, but he was an MP in Qui Nhon, South Vietnam before I got there.

Ray, Its an honor to hear the stories of all of our heroes that paved the way for our freedom. I understand the meaning of Memorial day as a celebration of the the lives lost during battle. Although many came home from our Wars that have been fought I believe all warriors lose a piece of there life in the battle. And though they may have returned home, they can never have been the same. That is why in my house we celebrate the lives of all service members that have passed on foreign soil or here at home. The bible gives us a glimpse of what is to come in our next life. Believe me he is now a member of the strongest battalion ever created sittin around enjoyin the finest Q ever cooked. Cheers buddy, enjoy celebrating the life of your Dad on this weekend

Bear, thanks for sharing about your Dad. Thank you for your service as well. Have a great weekend and God Bless

My dad was also a Korean war vet. Flight mechanic, I was to young to fully understand the importance of Memorial day to him during Nam. He lost a lot of his good friends during those years. He unfortunately passed away in Jan. of 1990.
One month before my daughter was born. RIP dad.
