OK, so I've read through endless threads on great luck with the NMPS and some that had zero success. I have the product and I'm getting ready to build a smoker with a external smoke generation (MB MOD). Here's what I've read/learned/questions/facts.
1. Dry pellets a must, and lighting technique crucial. So, I got this.
2. I will be using the ANMPS outside the smoker, so not interested in how to use it inside the smoker.
3. I plan on using the MB mod. I have read numerous problems with this application. One, the pellets don't like to burn against the draft. Two, setting the ANMPS crossways to the draft will help. I've seen legs put on the ANMPS, I assume to help with air flow. I've seen bottom holes in front of MB door, and a hole in the top of the door.
So, questions.
1. Why not put holes on bottom of of MB, vs front lid, to ensure there is enough air for total combustion of all pellets? This assumes the MB is elevated so air can flow through the bottom.
2. What environment was this product designed to work in? It seems like a lot of problems, depending on how it is used, deals with airflow, or the lack of.
3. In using it externally, is it important where the smoke pipe enters the smoker? Meaning, above or below the heat source. My heat source is an old Brinkmann heating element. I plan on putting base and all in the smoker. It is only 7" high.
