I am on the wait list for a Shirley smoker and would like some feedback. I plan on getting a 50 to 55” with warmer. I am on the fence when selecting a wagon wheel design or modified trailer design.

My use will be 90% in my backyard. To get to my backyard I do have a double gate, however there is a hill to get it to where it will go. Here is my question. Does anyone have any advise on how I would get it back up the hill and back to the driveway? I don’t plan to drive my car into the backyard.

Well it sounds to me like your going to need a trailer to get it up that hill. I would ask Shirley if they will get it to the place you want it in your back yard. That's what I did with my Lang & they said no problem, we'll put it where ever you want it!

Thanks. My challenge is not the initial placement going “downhill”, it is how do I ever get it back up the hill and to the driveway without 4 guys. I believe it will weigh 1500lbs.

You don’t. My smoker is heavy to move on flat grass and if the grass is soft you will make ruts. It’s hard to roll up a slight incline on concrete by myself. Maybe hook it to a riding mower or Atv if you have one.

We use a portable winch to get my BILs boat up a steep ramp.

BRBBQ, I agree with Flatbroke. If you know folks with winch or block and tackle that would do it also! Snatch block and a rope to your vehicle will do wonders.

This is what I was gonna suggest. I used to have a patio style stick burner (a heavy bugger!) that I moved around a few times with my riding mower. Whether this works for you or not will likely depend on 2 things: how steep is the hill, and how much does the pit weigh.

One other note... the spot in the backyard is not linear to the driveway as it will wrap around the house. This makes the winch idea tough and I don’t have a 4 wheeler or riding mower... only other idea I have is some type of motorized dolly... hmmm.

How long a wait time ? Get the trailer model i wish I did

Would you get a full trailer or smaller modified? Do you think the modified ones are at higher risk when towing?
first let me clarify, I didnt get a shirley, they are nice just didnt want to wait. i got a different make of patio model. but find myself wanting to cook away from home a few times a year. I also dont keep it on my patio so I should have got a trailer. you may not want to cook off site at all. as far as the smaller modified vs big, I dont know.
