Good smoker. I used a pellet tray when I had mine for a little extra smoke but not necessary. When I used it I would keep the chip loader halfway out for good airflow for it. You’ll be happy with it. Look into the mailbox mod if you’re interested. I never did it when I had mine but it seems to be very popular.

Great info here. I still have one but don't use it.
I would add use another termo in it to get the right temp. I used a sawdust tray in mine. I had to repair the wiring in mine and replace the heating element

Fire it up and start cookin! Only way I ever figured out how a new grill wants to run.
I have three weber kettles and each seems to cook a lil different.

I received a Masterbuilt 710 for my birthday. I've never used an electric smoker, anything I need to be aware of before I start it up?
HI there and welcome!

I second getting a separate thermometer, the onboard ones are always trash.
I prefer 4 probe ones that use RF (radio) wave to send the info to a separate unit you keep inside the house with you over the bluetooth ones that come with an app on your phone.

4 probes allows you to use 1-2 on the smoker racks to see what smoker temp is there at the rack levels and 2 probes to put into meat.

This will help you know what your smoker is ACTUALLY doing temp wise.

Lots of us MES owners here on the site.

Not much more I can add to what's been said though over time you'll find that it does have some limitations but there are some simple mods that can be done that will drastically improve it's performance.

I wanted to add this after the fact: if you want more interested eyes on this post you should edit the post title to something like Advice on Masterbuilt 710.

Make sure you get rid of all packing material .
Then follow the start up directions that came with it .
Should have time and temp for burning out any oils and starting the seasoning of the smoker .
