So for Christmas, my wife got me an AMAZN Expandable Pellet Tube and I am itching to use it.  Unfortunately I did not stock up on charcoal like I should of during the summer sales and my supply is dwindling.  However, as fate may have it, I have maybe 7 propane tanks all over my yard that are half full and a Weber Genesis gasser that is feeling neglected.   I was wondering if anyone has a picture of their set up using a weber genesis or a similar gasser for hot smoking in the 225-300 range (ribs, beef roasts, pork loins, etc.).

My instinct is to only light one burner for the sake of heat and then put the food and the tube over the non lit burners.  Is there a more space saving way to do it so that non-lit area of the grill is solely for food?

Thanks in advance!

My Genesis has a warming rack at the back.

I would think you could put the tube up there & the meat over the unlit burners.

There should be enough air circulation in the grill to get smoke on the meat, I think!

Or an even better idea would be to put the tube under the grate against the side & the meat above it. But over far enough that nothing will drip on the tube.

I like idea #2 better.

I can tell you this, any pit temp above 285, and the pellets will ignite and burn not smolder and smoke. The temp May even be lower for the expando tube. I haven't tested it yet. The highest pit temp I've used my expando is 180. I do know that the expando goes through pellets faster than the other tubes, so I assume it may not be able to handle the higher heat temps.

As for location, keeping it as far away from the fire is best.
