I know there are a few threads out there that cover if not exactly this near this but I wanted to start one specifically for my build to follow it along and ask questions rather than try a search for the answers amongst other threads.

CC:
old air tank
20.22" Diameter
10.11" Radius
63.5" Circumference
65.33 Gallon
15092 cu in

FB:
4980.36 cu in min --- plan to make it 5400 which is 10% larger ish ---
FB will be square with combustion air in door with one big fat 4x4 slide shutter. I will also put some penetrations in the bottom of FB for drainage in case it ever gets water in there and extra air.
bypass holes near top directly accross from FB/CC opening
I am thinking of doing 18"H 15W 20Deep to reach the 5400 size and then have additional height below the fire grate for an ash box

FB/CC opening I am going to use 66 sqin 13 "diameter half moon

I am going to use a 4" stack at 30" which I can shorten if needed 22" should be sufficient (I think). The stack will take off at grate level and measurement will be made from the top of CC so my total vent length will be 40 ish to start.

I think that is the bare bones of the plan open to insight on any mistakes anyone might see with the plan.

Welcome to SMF. Find your answers here, search is your buddy. Your tank is similar in size to mine. You can check out my build thread. Take your time, make cardboard templates, cardboard is easily corrected, 1/4" steel not so forgiving.
Make it yours and have fun!!

Couple snaps of progress so far. Burnt the tank out, bent some hinges up and cut in the door. Going to have to chain the door and jack it as it warped a little nothing to bad though.

lessons so far:
-wear long sleeves or you’ll get farmers tan from the plasma or rather burn

So, picked up some plate from the scrap yard for half the cost which was a win bc they really don’t like you walking on their pile. 1 pc is 5/16” which I plan to use as my FB base as it is the thickest and I believe the bottom will take the most abuse. I then have enough 1/4” to make 1 side and than the rest is 3/16”.

I planned to do the top of FB in the 1/4” as it will take a lot of heat and the rest in 3/16” what are the internets thoughts on that plan?

An alternate option is to do the door end and door itself in 1/4” rather than the top.
