well I have been on the lookout for an expansion tank to turn into a smoker and a few months ago I got that phone call. The tanks a couple years old and the bladder was intact when pulled out of service so it is the prime candidate. Calculated the tank to be about 60 gallons and went with the reverse flow calculator and started cutting. Fire box is 18” pipe and 2 feet long. Oversized it a bit. Still need to cut air intake into the firebox and a few other odds and ends but it’s almost there. Reverse flownplate is 1/4” tank is only 1/8 thick which I wish was a little thicker but the price is right.

First cook total success. Brisket pulled at 205. Let rest for about two hours. Sliced and could pull apart with fingers. Ribs came out great and pork shoulder is still in cooler resting, it was the last off the grill.
