Just trying to get some opinions about them from people who have seen them or owned one. I'm interested in the 270 standard. Would also like to know how the 270 compares to a humphreys pint . They both cost the same amount. The 270 comes with wheels vs the humphreys is a 150 charge. Shipping is the same . It's a hard decision

Fully insulated 16 gauge steel cabinet allowing for burns of over 12 hours on one load of charcoal (over 8 for the Mighty Mini and Sumo).
Patented "Heated Draft" increases air flow within the cooking chamber, creating a very uniform and stable cooking environment.
Dual chimney chambers with reversible chimney cap allow for versatility in cooking.
Dual heat diffuser plates create both a surface for radiant heat across all shelves and a fixed platform for a water/grease pan.
Powder coated exterior.
Slide out 14 gauge ash pan and charcoal basket.
Heavy duty casters and built in handles enable ease of moving without sacrificing stability.
Heavy duty shelves (Standard and Large models will accommodate up to 6) are sized to efficiently cook typical butts, brisket, or ribs, and to fit disposable aluminum steam table pans.
Tel-Tru thermometer.

The Standard is designed to comfortably hold 6-9 Boston Butts or 3 large packer briskets or 12 racks of full St. Louis style ribs. It will typically run >12 hours on one load of lump charcoal, depending upon load and smoking temperature. It accommodates a full size, disposable pan.

The meat capacity specs are different but the spacing on the 270 is a little more realistic. So I'd say they are the same

While I don't know much about the humphreys pint, I have seen the 270 up close a couple of years ago in Pittsburgh Pa during the KCBS & Sam's club tour/competition. I met Terry West (the designer of the 270) and he showed me the 270 up close. The construction looked really good and I got a chance to taste some of his burnt ends (really good). I am currently using an insulated Myron Mixon water cooker that has four, four foot square racks. While this smoker works well for parties and competitions I would really like a smaller one for use around the house. The 270 is at the top of the list for a near future purchase. Good luck with your choice, it's never an easy one. Let me know what you think with whatever you buy..

Thanks I appreciate the info. In thinking of getting a 270 standard.. I want it big enough to maybe try out some BBQ comps yet a realistic size for my family.

Russ,

I have seen the 270 line up close but not in action. They are well built and well designed IMHO. I like the ones you are considering and would add the Backwoods in there as I mentioned before, but the may be a little higher priced. I keep coming back to the accommodation of a full sized pan. I always said my 5th smoker (my nest one) would accommodate one. But I don't need a big smoker. I love that the Humphrey's all fit whole pans. The G2 Line of the Smaller Backwoods also holds a full pan.

Of course not having the ability to smoke with full size pans now, I can't say I'll love it once I can. I just think it's something I want the option of doing. The Large 270 will hold full size pans.

I looked into back woods party. It's a little cheaper 1600 .. but I don't really like the rack size. I like how the 270 smokers open up .. having it at the wide side of the rack will make quick work out of basting and peeping on the color of things. Plus the racks are staggered so it helps with the view . I've talked to both humphreys and 270 they are both really helpful and patient with questions. I've called back woods about 10 times and nobody ever answers. I talked to a guy known by kirbbq online who has a 270 he what nothing but good things to say. I'm not buying one for about 2 months but I figured I better figure it out now. "If" I get the 270 it will be black and red with a stainless steel top. One of their new options. They had diamond plate on top but it isn't holding up like they wanted so they switched to the stainless steel top.

One thing good about the humphreys is the re sale value is very good !
