This reverse flow smoker build will be a bit unconventional because the firebox is going to be mounted on the underside of the cooking chamber instead of on the end of it. I did this mostly for aesthetics because the tank is short and stubby measuring 24" in diameter and 32" end cap to end cap. There will be a chute off to one side of the firebox to redirect the heat under the RF plate, I believe this is reffered to as a 1.5 reverse flow. The firebox will be lined with firebrick, it may look a little large but internal dimensions with firebrick are only 8% over the feldons calculator recommended volume.

I started by plasma cutting out 1/4" plate for the firebox.

I have been meaning to build a rotary positioner. Until then this will have to do. 1/2" copper coupler for ground and an exhaust clamp for adjusting the speed. This is the fire box door handle.

Machining hinges for the fire box door. Sintered bronze bushing inserts make them really smooth with no play. The door handle/latch also got a bronze bushing.

Plasma cut hinges for the cook chamber lid: The template is made out of 1/4" masonite.

I lapped the template on the tank to get the final contour fitted.

Nice craftsmanship and shop. I'll be waiting for the finished product.

Very nice start!

I love the very redneck solution to the rotary positioner!!

I really want to find a tank that size for a grill to match my smoker.

And jealous of the shop. I want a few toys like that in mine
