Do I need to worry about the painted finish on the inside? I removed all the plastic, but am wondering if I need to remove the paint off the entirety of the inside.

  2. Hello.  To really give you a definite answer would at least need to see pictures.  From my childhood and from recently buying 2 1950's fridges the interior is usually an enamel type coating.  So yes it may chip and IF that is the case you are safe and better off to leave the interior as is.  I remember the rectangle drawers had the same coating and they would chip if dropped so I imaging the rest of the interior would be the same.  So give some thought to cutting and drilling.  Below is the 1952 I just bought.  Good Luck.  Keep Smokin!

That is a beauty there Danny. Great score.
  5. Hello.  Yep!  That should be an enamelled type coating so you should be good to go.  Check that the insulation is not flammable.  Good luck.  Keep Smokin!

  6. Cool , that will be neat

Awesome news on the interior coating! Insulation is Fiberglass batt, so I should be set.
  8. WHOA!  Hold up there.  Put a piece of the insulation in an open flame and hold it there.  Make darn sure it doesn't burn.  My opinion is that if I am gonna build this thing I want it to operate from 60-70 degrees for cold smoking to 450-500 hot smoking.  May never ever need that top temp but why be limited?  I smoke brisket 350-375.  I also plan a small fan in case during cold smoking the heat starts to rise too high.  Kick it on manually or by PID and shoot the heat out the exhaust.  In my opinion if doing a build like this try to build for EVERY POSSIBLE scenario.  If you don't need it OH WELL.  If you do need it and not installed then a rebuild and repaint is the option.  MORE MONEY.  Just my opinion.  Keep Smokin!
