Well, income tax money came in so I made my trip to the scrap yard.  For $70 I got a slight beaten 140 gallon tank and about 30 foot of even more beaten square tubing.  Last fall, the same scrap yard had a slightly larger tank and they wouldn't budge off $120, so I feel I did alright.  I am going to try to knock this out and sell it.  If you know anyone in Far West Texas or East New Mexico that wants a good quality smoker, tell them to watch this build come along.

I got it home and off course it stunk like a bunch of out houses, so I filled it up in the bed and I couldn't roll it over so I am using a 1/2 inch hose to syphon it out.  It may take a while to drain it.  I got a cheapo plasma cutter for Christmas, and I can't wait to use it here.  I will be taking and posting a lot of pics along the way.

No this is just a patio smoker.  Although I do have another propane tank that would work great as a chicken tower.

The new one sitting in front of the old one.  My wife is pressuring me to sell the old one and keep this one, but with being a federal employee and facing two weeks off before September, I will need the old one and its capacity to sell some meat to feed the family durning this lean time.

Nice lil toy there. One trick for straight cuts is using a jig ora guide. If you have any flat bar or aything ya can use with a nice straight smooth edge to it.

Take ur cut line and you'll have to compinsate for the outside edge of the post to the cutting tourch(probablly 3/16's") and the acuall cutting port........

Secure ur flat bar by gripping or small tack welds and you just use it as a nice guide for a straight cut........ try it on a scrap piece and see what you think.

Happy cutting! You can use method on radius cuts also if ya take shape, compensate, rough cut smooth edges and use as template.

Power washed the hell out of it yesterday and got it cradled and mobile today. I also patched the two holes from fill lines in the CC and made a command decision not to take the other fill lines out of the fire box and just patch in place.

I cut a 1/3 of a 140 gallon tank.  The 1/3 will be the firebox.

This is my idea to fight the door warp. Half a c clamp welded on to a strong bolt. I welded the nut on to the CC so it will pivot out of the way.
I ran out of the angle needed for the shelf I decided to add at the last second. But I did get the track welded in.

Well, I decided to leave this as a side firebox, and not a reverse flow.  El Paso and surrounding area is not a huge smoking community.  I decided to put a removable tuning plate and this will allow the person who buys this to either grill with the tuning plate out or smoke with it in.  If an admin person could move this to the Side Firebox area, I would appreciate it.  Thanks.

I got a little time this weekend and lit it up. It is running a little hot and I am going to have to figure that out. But it had great draft and worked like I thought. Bu with to much heat I am thinking that two inlets are to much. I will have to figure out how to seal it up some.
