Nice list, thanks for sharing it!

I have heard of the fair up there. my step brother lives in de mones...we just had our fair here..big deal in small towns. do you guys have pig wrestling tho ????
lol

LOL That's awesome. Thanks for this FiU.

I've had a few of these. The very best in my book is
___ 35. Chicken Spiedini, Tursi's Latin King Restaurant, Des Moines
that stuff is like a drug. One taste and you're hooked for life.

But some others I can personally speak for...
___ 1. Taco Pizza, Happy Joe's, locations across Iowa
when I was a kid there was nothing better. I still love it, just don't have it very often.

___ 3. BBQ Ribs, Claxon's Smokehouse & Grill, Altoona
Not so great.

___ 7. Sauerbraten (beef marinated in a sweet and sour sauce, made with spices and Amana wines) with potato dumplings, Ronneburg Restaurant, Amana
Pretty good if you're into German food. The Amana Colonies are a grouping of 5 or 6 towns settled by the Germans way back when. Touristy kind of place great baked goods for sure.

___ 8. Saucy Southerner Sandwich, Hickory Park, Ames
Not so great either. They take all thier trimmings of beef, pork and chicken and mix them in a BBQ sauce and serve on a big bun. There's always lines out the door during lunch and dinner at this place. Most of their food is pretty good in my opinion. But I know others that don't like it.

___ 11. Gyro, The Gyro Guy outdoor cart, Campustown, Ames
Nothing quite like this place. Great when you've had "a little too much" after leaving a Campustown bar.

___ 32. Bone-in Delmonico, 801 Steak & Chop House, Des Moines
Too rich for my blood. Funny story...took the wife there for our 5 year anniversary on a Sunday night. Didn't make reservations, showed up, they were closed. LOL Who knew. Went to a bar, got drunk.

___ 34. Peach Ice Cream, Bauder's, Des Moines
Local landmark for being an old school pharmacy with a soda counter.

___ 36. Corn dog, Campbell's Concessions, Iowa State Fair, Des Moines
It's a corn dog. What's not to love?

___ 39. Steak taco, Tasty Tacos, Des Moines
The chicken is better. But it's their fluffy shells that gets everybody. I could just eat these fried beauties all day.

___ 40. Hot Sausage Sandwich (made with Graziano's sausage), Norwood Inn, Des Moines
If it's made with Graziano's, it's tough to beat.

___ 94. Steak DeBurgo, Sam & Gabe's Italian Bistro, Urbandale
I've had the good fortune of eating here a couple of time. Great place, pretty pricey though.

___ 95. Cinnamon Roll, Iowa Machine Shed, Urbandale
Good Cinnamon Roll for sure. But they serve everything "family" style. Might as well stay home and eat. Mostly RV's, Highway Patrolmen, retiree's, and farmers visiting from out of town. Always packed, just a few blocks from my office.

___ 100. Apple Dumpling, Iowa 80 truck stop, Walcott
Never had this, but this place was just featured on some TV show about "extreme" truckstops. Whatever that is. The place is huge though.

Thanks again for this.

Lucy hitch up the wagon we're going to Iowa. We be there soon.
