Thanks! Yes, I prefer to drink the beer while lounging around in the garage while my cooker does the work!
I had read mixed reviews on the Akorn but couldn't pass up the Memorial Day sale price at Lowes. It holds temp almost as good as my higher end cooker.
I love cooking whole chickens. My favorite way to cook them is to set them up on a beer can chicken rack. I think it allows the chicken to cook very evenly. One thing I never do is waste a good beer by putting it inside the chicken!
I bought a Char Griller Akorn a couple weeks ago and I've...
Thanks all!
I have ordered some Texas Rib Candy in the same flavor without the 2X Habanero heat. The wife didn't like the extra hot stuff so I didn't really get to candy them like I wanted. The new bottle should be here by mid-week though so I see another rack in the plans for next weekend!
That brisket looks great. Good job!
I had been making my own brisket rub for home and competition use and switched it up recently to the OakRidge BBQ Black Ops Brisket Rub. I highly recommend you checking it out for your next brisket cook.
I'm cooking a rack of St. Louis cut ribs today. I've read a ton of reviews about Texas Rib Candy so I finally ordered some earlier in the week. It came in the mail yesterday and it really does taste amazing. I got the Apple-Cherry-Habanero flavor with 2X the heat. It's perfectly balanced...
Competition chicken practice today, burgers with pico/avacado tomorrow, and competition rib practice Monday with some new rib candy sauce. Hope everyone has a nice long weekend!
I've experimented with it. There's a million opinions online about how long to brine. I've always just stuck to an hour or so for thighs and wings. I taste my brine in the meat even after only an hour. I'm definitely open to input though. How long do you normally brine thighs b-one? It's...
This is the first cook of three that I have planned for this long weekend. First and foremost, thank you to all who have served our great country and especially to the ones who didn't make it home. We wouldn't be able to do all the things we enjoy without your service.
I'm doing some...
Took this week off and went down to the beach with the wife for a few days. Decided to come back early and get settled in so we could still have a normal weekend. I haven't cooked anything on the smoker since the last competition a few weeks back. Our pork and pork ribs really didn't score...
I had been wanting some beer and wings, and the wife is out of town on business, so figured there was no time like the present!
I picked up a bag of 30 fresh drummies and sprinkled with a little Tony's Cajun seasoning.
Smoked in my 270 Sumo at 275 degrees for 45 minutes, flipped and smoked...
We decided to do a brisket and burnt ends yesterday. My buddy found a 13lb prime packer for $40 at our local butcher, that was hard to pass up!
Trimmed it up nice and rubbed it down with my brisket rub:
Ran it at 225 over pecan logs to switch it up a little:
4 hours in and time to wrap...
