I'm still on the fence with this. I look at all the smoke in that pic and think about the Big Chief I had - Blah! I guess I will just take the next step and snag a tube to see if that is enough for me.
Thanks for posting everything guys.

What I am thinking about is the wood chunks being no larger than the pellets. Based on my observations of my Pit Boss, the motor and auger would have no problem at all pushing them through. Question is, how would they burn compared to the pellets? Would they impart more of a real wood profile...
I know pellet smokers are for pellets only, but has anyone ever mixed some very small real wood pieces to the mix? Is so, what were the results?
Very curious,
Mark
Alan, I'm very curious how you would compare the smoke flavour (amount) you get in your cooks now with the stock Austin XL controller. I've found that the stock controller in my PB was about right for me, but after switching to the PP I too found things lacking.
Before the PB, we had a Big...
Actually, I would like to ask you what your setup is. Reason being is I used to have a Big Chief and the smoke flavour it produced was way over the top - to the point where all you could taste was smoke. If I get the cold smoke generator I'm afraid I will end up with the same as what I had...
210* all the way until cooked (burgers). I find hamburger to soak up more smoke than anything else so this was a good test for me to determine whether or not my taste buds were playing tricks on me.
I am experiencing the same problem after dropping a SmokeDaddy PID into my PB. The original controller delivered a nice even smoke flavour but the temp swing was gross. The PID gives little to no smoke flavour at all.
I called SmokeDaddy and spoke at length with the main dude. He basically...
Replaced controller, temp sensor, auger and auger motor. Nothing left to replace but the fan. My last smoke had the temps swinging as much as 60*. For me 20-30* swings is no big deal if things settle down eventually. I have a feeling if I report this I will need to do another controller...
Sorry, I was wearing my tinfoil hat when I wrote that. I was referring to the fact that Microsoft was so slow at adopting Internet technology, they were behind the 8-ball for quite a while.
And yeah, I do kind of miss the pre tech times. Life was much easier then, especially when you could...
Frankly, I'm surprised it took this long for them to enter the fray. Kind of reminds me of Microsoft and this little known phenomenon called the Internet.
Interesting. I will keep that in mind. It is difficult to determine just how much fat is on these things. It is clearly a crap shoot.
I actually shared the idea with the wife after reading your post. I still have my nads; but I won't be making any soap lol.
