Yup. I used the CharGriller that is in my picture. I made a few modifications to it the other day too to improve the heat sealing and chimney. The mods went a long way to help keep the temperature steady compared to what I had been dealing with before.

Heres the final update on my first pork butt. After 9 hours of smoking at around 225° and 30 minutes of rest here are the results. I have a full post with all of the details up as well.

Just finished up my first pork butt tonight. It went extremely well for my first time. It ulled apart very easily and tasted delicious. It was about 7.5 lbs raw and took 9 hours on the smoker with a temperature hovering around 225°. I crutched it with foil at 160° and took it off of the smoker...
I believe it was just shy of 8 pounds. Its a boneless cut too. They didnt have any bone-in cuts out yesterday. I'm leaving it open until it reaches about 165° internal temp then I'll crutch it with some foil to finish it off for the last 30° or so.
Two hours into my pork but smoke and the cooking chamber seems to be holding a steady temperature much better than before. Glad to see the mods are paying off for me.
The pork butt has been going for a couple of hours now. This picture is from when I first put it on. I will send a final picture when it's all set. In about twenty minutes I'll be firing up some chicken wings for lunch while we wait.
I went to the hardware store and picked up some supplies and with the help of amazon, hopefully I now have a well-sealed smoker. I have been using a cheap offset smoker for the past 6 months since I started smoking and decided to try to add some things to even-off the temperature at the grates...
Thanks for the replies everyone. Theres some great info in here. Using charcoal with some hardwood chunks for the right smoke is probably my best bet around here. I did find that there are a couple of local tree cutting companies around that all firewood but I'd have to do some waiting for the...
Hey everyone,
For my smokes over the summer I have been buying seasoned wood chunks from Lowe's but those small bags can get expensive when you have to buy them for every smoke. Does anyone know where I can get a 1/4 cord or 1/2 cord of good wood for smoking in eastern Mass. or southern New...
Hey Everyone,
I just joined the forums today to learn from all of the experiences smokers and find new ideas. I started smoking meats on a cheap offset smoker early this past summer and love the whole process. I place on making some simple modifications to my smoker this weekend to help keep...
