or i did some custom modifications , lol . it was a PITA for about a hour , but it's all good now :) .
did my seasoning yesterday with a full basket of $6 wally world charcoal and the slivers from some western hickory "chunks" . started about 3 PM with the dials wide open and B4 4 PM it hit...
well ..... i un-defected it ;) i'm seasoning it now with spray canola oil . probally won't be able to cook on it till thur/fri but i'm really looking forward to it . took a pork butt out the freezer a little bit ago
my bronco was delivered yesterday 2 days early :) . but the welded tabs/bolts to connect the halves didn't want to line up good with the tabs/nuts ! made a wedge with a few boards to to nudge it , no go even put some gorilla force on it with the better half trying to start the bolt , still no...
ok folks , just ordered the IBT-6XS and the cover for my oklahoma joes bronco (the bronco arrived this afternoon , 2 days early) . both were $73 shipped from amazon . i almost went with the thermpro for the 3 year warranty if i register it . but not having to buy batteries and only having one...
thanks for the replies folks . i'm deciding between 3 units now ....
ThermoPro TP27 $56
Inkbird IRF-4S $45
Inkbird IBT-6XS $42
" I hate having to open the app to see the temp "
not something i had considered smoking . but it's also two separate pieces that can fail .
which is better ?
is either more durable ?
i'm looking at inkbird units but interested in replies/experiences with other brands/units .
i'm thinking i want the 6 probe unit but their 4 probe units offer much farther range and more importantly water resistance .
decisions decisions ...
i'm thinking i want 6 probes but 1500 ft range vs 150 is enticing although 150 ft will probably get me to my neighbor across the road and a 1/4 mile range is just crazy unusable for me .
however the 4 probe being waterproof is is great insurance IMO but nothing sitting a glass bowl or pyrex...
did a little searching here and didn't find a answer , but i'm not beyond overlooking stuff sometimes . seen a lot of comments about lump tasting better because briquettes contain soft woods and stuff to hold their shape effecting taste . last year the better half got me the OJ longhorn combo ...
my bronco is supposed to be delivered wednesday and i'm aware of the leaks around the drum halves and i don't want it leaking on our new deck i built last summer . just my opinion but i DESPISE the the look of red RTV on grills , was gonna use gasket tape but i saw slowhands video and he used...
thanks folks . i'm just gonna get the weber and invest in cast iron or stainless steel later if the weber rust or i a find a great sale .
thanks again , jeff
i was surprised the weber is plated steel .
the OJ bronco is porcelain coated .
trying to find a inexpensive SS round 18 incher but no luck yet .
so far the OJ looks to be the best option for this cheap bass turd .
so which is better for smoking/grilling ?
which is more durable ?
for my use it will be used on a oklahoma joes bronco barrel smoker .
i don't want to invest in a cast iron grate yet .
thanks , Jeff
LOL @ Al & 3eye .
i don't nap much but i'm really liking the idea of cooking through the night and being able to check temps when i come back from the potty or wakeing up and can't go back to sleep for a bit . FWIU the bronco can go 10-12 hours on a full load of charcoal when cooking 225-250ish...
