Sorry Weber, Oklahoma Joe for the win..

My overwhelming need for African Suya beef took over so I went on an open fire grill quest. I needed a grill that would get the coals closer to the cook grate and the OKJ Rambler looked to fit the bill. Brother did it ever. In order to use jumbo skewers I removed the hinged lid and the adustable...

Lone Star Grillz Pellet Grill No smoke flavor

If you are addicted to stickburner meat flavor profile, do NOT buy a pellet spitter. They are a good outdoor convection oven and do provice SOME smoke flavor but once your palate gets addicted to burning hardwood, it's game over folks. Next best (and my favorite) is gravity charcoal cookers with...

    Advice for an Offset Smoker

Ideas on raising the charcoal grate on Weber 22?

I like the idea of Vortex but what stops me is the hottest area is centered in center of the cook grate . I need more cooking area (that's as hot as the sun) to do a rapid fajita sear job, so how would I do that if the highest heat is reduced to the outlet diameter of the Vortex under the cook...

    Advice for an Offset Smoker

I went for the Grand Champ too and it's the best bang for the buck out there. It has flaws but as the saying goes, you gets what you pays for. BUT, I'm going back to gravity feed if the war dept ever gets around to approving the funding. I got rid of my Gen 1 Masterbuilt after 100 or so briskets...

Cutworms killing my pepper seedlings, 50 plants killed so far, HELP!

Get a goose, they love to eat fire ants. Ours used to stand on the mound and while they swarmed over her she would just go to town on them..and she won, they vacated the area.

Cutworms killing my pepper seedlings, 50 plants killed so far, HELP!

Tuesday update.. No starters under the tent or in baggies were damaged, BUT one tray of leek babies is gone, wiped out. The leeks had been ignored until last night so I thought they were unpalatable to the nasties. Wrong! So, the tent and zipperlock baggy protected starters survived, which tells...

Cutworms killing my pepper seedlings, 50 plants killed so far, HELP!

I checked for activity at 2:30 AM and just now at 6:14 AM and there is no sign of damage. Was it the "tent" or the suibmerging of the pots yesterday or did they just up and move on? In any case, it seems that whatever it is/was did not emerge from the soil last night. The two baby tomato plants...

Evening update and plan of defense or at least a way to find out if the maruader comes from the soil in the pots or from outside.

Cutworms killing my pepper seedlings, 50 plants killed so far, HELP!

Me too BUT I did an exam of the dirt in last night’s murdered pots and nothing nada zip. After examining the dirt under a lamp I tossed it in a 5 gal bucket of water, stirred and ran through a colander. Still nothing. A mystery wrapped in a riddle inside an enigma.

Cutworms killing my pepper seedlings, 50 plants killed so far, HELP!

Ahh, worm cam! I wish but no joy with the worm survelance deal. I'm fixing to apply thuricide, but Neem oil and Spinosad must taste like BBQ sauce to them, as I've hosed the pots, soil and every inch of the plants themselves over an over. Last bit of data is that this started outside on my...

Cutworms killing my pepper seedlings, 50 plants killed so far, HELP!

Cut clean off with the stem with branches and leaf still intact, but lying in the dirt next to where the stem came out of same. BTW, I'm in Austin so the grow season is limited to when it gets Africa hot and noting but nothing will bear fruit.

Cutworms killing my pepper seedlings, 50 plants killed so far, HELP!

Update/more info.. All my jalapenos and sweet corn starters are in single pots on large metal trays. The offender/s hit one large pot three feet away from the main grouping up on a platform I constructed to get it near a grow lamp. Then it/they hit 10 of the jalapenos in small pots which were on...

Cutworms killing my pepper seedlings, 50 plants killed so far, HELP!

It's Monday April 14 as I type this. I bought an infested poblano pepper at the garden center three weeks ago and when I bought it I noticed some leaves that looked like they had been cut with sissors. Should have walked away, I bought live cutworms from the garden center, thanks for that guys...

Nifty new OKJ grill, the Rambler!

The war dept has denied my application for the new Masterbuilt gravity rig but she did allow an Oklahoma Joe "Rambler" table top grill. I've been looking at the cheap junk grills offered by seemingly every home supply store I've been in, including Academy sports (bit of a surprise there, they...
