...the 30.
Then I discovered a thread started by fellow member @chopsaw about using ground/crushed pellets in the tube and have never looked back. You almost double the smoke time of the tube.
I have a full write up on it...
This is the thread on the u bolt mod by normanaj

Expanding oval might be a bit different , you'll just have to try it to see what works . It does help . I use a mail box , don't have trouble with it . I never had trouble...
...1 and 2.5 units, distinguished by single Oval Water Pans, work with the AMNPS. Some bad reviewers fail to realize that Altitude has an effect. The AMNPS needs plenty of Oxygen and may not work in some areas of the country. The AMNTS Tube, eliminates this issue and the reason it was created...JJ
...today.
Here is what I got a bunch of
A half pound in the grilling wok. Did a small batch because this is a trial run
Cold smoked with the AMNTS in my big smoker. I thought a couple hours would be plenty. WRONG!! It took 6 hours to get a nice smoke flavor. Here they are after smoking and...
What smoker?
Have you modded the tube with ubolts? If not I highly recommend this read and you'll not be disappointed with the results.

Here's my analog Masterbuilt with a 2" UDS stack. AMNTS tube works well in it. I have a similar size hole in the bottom. To seal when not in use I place a small flat plate over the bottom hole and just close the top. I do caution you if you run the smoker with the vent wide open like I have...
If you're having issues with the tray I highly recommend using the AMNTS (tube) w/u-bolt mod.I've been doing this for the last two years.

...rub for this smoke. Since this was something new, I also decided to add a spritz (vineger and hot sauce mixture) to it and use my A-MAZE-N AMNTS pellet tube. The smoker I used was my Daniel Boone GMG.
The roast was rubbed down the previous night with mustard and then coated with Jeff's...
The tube used as is with whole pellets will produce copious amounts of smoke so I started experimenting with it.Please check out this thread on modding the tube:

I find the flavors are not all that different, mild and sweet, as opposed to acrid like Mesquite. The Big difference, Cherry adds a distinct Mahogany Red color to the meat that Apple doesn't. Lots of AMNPS and AMNTS guys will mix Cherry with other pellets...JJ
Oh, No problem. Before I got the amnps tray I got the amnts tube smoker for the grill and cold smoking, then the Mes, then the tray. I slid the amnts in the straight pipe a few times while making the mailbox mod waiting for the tray to arrive.
I am using in a MES 40. I cold not keep pellets going so made dust. I heat dust in toaster over at 225 for 30 minutes than pack fairy tight in tray. The whole tray burns up in just over a hour. I am sitting on the bottom of smoker. It is not jumping channels.
Sounds like you have it planned out if you try it will be interested to see how it works. Would be worried about starting a fire though. Why not use propane as the heat source and the AMNTS tube smoker as the smoke source. Seems easier and less risk of problems that may arise
...is available then I go with them.Todd's are great but they're just not available retail...gotta buy online.
As long as they're dry and stored properly I've had zero issues with the Pitboss pellets.Plus I also use them ground with a coffee bean grinder in the AMNTS (tube) with u-bolt mod.
...Lots and lots of folks, me included use the A-Maze-N products for both hot and cold smoking. Me only for cold smoking however. I have the 12" AMNTS (tube smoker) and the 5x8 AMNPS (pellet smoker) and only use pellets sold by A Maze N. they are a sponsor of the forum and take good care of the...
...much cooler than pellets.. Burning the dust in the Mail Box modification, adds NO extra heat to the smoker and meat I'm smoking...
Some folks have even burned dust in the TUBE... AMNTS, from Todd... I think they 1/2 fill the tube when they burn dust... I'm probably wrong about that but..
If I'm not mistaken, you'll actually want to select the AMNTS (Tube smoker) rather than the "P" (pellet smoker) this is do to lower availability of oxygen within a propane smoker.
The short answer as to why you need one is simple. Several hours of no maintenance, uninterrupted, predictable...
