Actually the lid seal is tied on not glued on. So I get some venting around the lid for now. I saw that way of doing the lid seal on another site for ECB mods. Planning on getting a set of Weber replacement vents and adding one in the future.
...Chef Jimmyj's post #10 I'm a convert. But the issue of the bird being done before the Butt still exists. That a prob with a cooker like WSM or ECB because you have to un-stack every thing to get to what's on the bottom. A cabinet like an MES is far more forgiving...
Welcome back!! It's hard to imagine how many of us "grew up" using an ECB. What's amazing is that in spite of the very low price point they can turn out some really good food. The OJ will take some getting used to as you learn it's quirks and nuances, but between your WSM and OJ, you should be...
I think the idea of the ECB mods are to keep them cheap, and have fun doing it. Check Craigslist or Facebook marketplace for Smokey joes, I see them all the time for $10-$20. I also see ECB’s a lot for cheap. The water pan that came with the grill works fine.
I'd go to Walmart or somewhere and get a Turkey stand if you don't have the room. You don't want it tipping over and hitting the sides of your smoker. How big is your MFB. I have a 22" WSM that I can fit a 15+ pounder in whole.
Here's a link to my first bird as you can see there's plenty of...
Just registered on this forum after getting the bug this weekend. Parts and pieces on order to modify the ECB that was in the corner of the shed. First smoke in a couple of weekends, and looking forward to it.

...space to put a couple racks of belly bacon in the hybrid bullets I combined.
The Masterbuilt for a low heat source . It's been keeping the top ECB (El Cheapo Brinkmann) in the 60-70° range on its lowest setting.
A foiled rack above the heat elements for the AMNPS it sit on. Then a foot...
...(inexpensive) racks.
Use 1x2's or 1x3's as rack holders. Put semi-circular cut outs in the top edge to use with dowels for hanging sausage.
Hook up your PID to the e-ECB and set the box over it.
Voila!!
Don't forget to paint a crescent moon on the door so the neighbors think you built an...
It sounds like this is going to be the maiden voyage of your ECB. If it is I would suggest firing it up(dry - no water) and see how hot/stable it runs and for how long. If it's running hot/and spiking then try it again with plain water and see how that goes. Water is cheap.

Thought I would post a thread using the rocket ship.
I have successfully cooked and smoked a couple times using this modified
ECB-W22 a couple times, including jerky at 140-150° .
So I'm doing a whole smaller brisket today using a minion and some mixed apple and hickory chunk wood.
The...
...Also was at HD last night and saw a 10 in by 10 ft roll of aluminum flashing for $8. Thinking about getting that to make a lip around the ECB lid and to make an air block just above the charcoal pan in both units.
I used 8x10 shelf brackets to make legs for the charcoal pan. I used tge long...
Hi, since joining in July I've been lurking and learning, modified Mr.Meat (ECB) type smoker, done ribs at least 6 times, 9# pork shoulder for pulled pork. (Usually never got pictures because we were ready to eat). Tonight I smoked half a pork loin with hickory and cherry, went for a rub of red...
Rings R Us- Thanks for the advice! I am having trouble finding a specific thread on modifying my Electric Brinky to Charcoal. Maybe I am not looking right.. Anyway I am going to post to a new thread and see if anyone has done this! Thanks
...as a couple Brinkmann models. Gourmet and smoke n grill electric. You need to have some kind of air in there for the pellets to work. The tray will need to be shielded by a water pan or something and foil or whatever on top.
Mods can be found by checking the ECB threads . Or Grand Goumet .
Did a boneless rubbed English Cut roast on the ECB. El Cheapo Brinkmann.
Worked out nice. I took it out in the stall and finished or in the slow cooker.
Onion garlic and carrots.. bit of water.
7 hours Apple chunks. 235-250.
