You know when you mention a pipe dream and you're totally 'ignored'

 . Well, for the last 3or4 yrs. I get to thinking about a place for my 'Girls' . A Q-Bana

 . I started out keeping them in the garage , but that was when we were buying the house

 . Well , that didn't last very long , the whole family started bringing their 'stuff' and took over the space for the Smokers . They have been outside for several years

 

 We hit a major bump in the road when I was declared Disabled

. The F.I.L came to the rescue and bought  the house and we pay rent . I like that better anyhow , we will never be evicted and the rent is cheaper. It's an apartment and our Nephew rents the other part .

 

 So, today I discovered Trish was listening the whole time I would start dreaming about  the Smokers.

To my surprise , she gave Dad some money for materials . We go pick - up the wood tomorrow

.

Here's the location , and is planned for a 12'X12'  with old Lime slabs (from sidewalks) for the floor.

I am a happy camper ,

The plan is for 2x ,and4x's with corrugated top . just behind the door and having Lattice on the end for a good support for the tarp in the Winter.

Anyone with any 'Logical' ideas , please step -up . My mind is spinning with ideas . I'm keeping it at a minimum $ , and finding all I can re-purpose .

This may be a long one , so get the super size drink and popcorn .

In my climate, a covered patio does the trick.

I have a fair idea of your climate and you would need a bit more.

Great job on the used stuff where it can be used!

My Dad lived through the depression.  He had me at the anvil with a hammer to straighten used nails with a hammer. He even taught me how to pull nails with the minimum of bending.  I sometimes wonder if he ever bought a screw, nut, bolt, washer, or nail in his life?

But we did it!  And it was great training for a young man!

Keep your work space flexible. Be able to move things around or have a stack that is above the roof, so no matter what way the wind blows you are not smoked out. A work table that is the appropriate height for you. I find that to be a good being 6'2" and most tables are very short for me.

   Yep! I've got my little Backyard Gear table to roll around and a bench for the odds and ends. The 'lattice' will let the air circulate and will help support the tarp when I need the wind block at the North and South sides. I got your flexible , in mind , and thanks

   Yeah , I was raised in Texas , and had perpetual Summer. That was great and I used it to my advantage

.

   I'm a 'dumpster diver anyway , so was Paw. A good thing , I have grandiose ideas and need to use my Southern Ingenuity with things I scavenge.

I had a great childhood and was left to use my imagination all I  wanted . Nice living in the country with 500a. to play was yours ( the neighbor owned it and let me run my stock on his pasture).

Congrats on getting your own Q space and good luck building it Stan.  I think electricity is a must. Outlets and some good lights for night time smokes.  My second thought would be a sign like…

                   OldSchoolBBQ                 at the top and something under that like..

No new fangled ideas here just good Q.

This is my place stay out.

If you crackle like a hen or whine like a swine or moo like a cow you just might be smoked and eaten.

If you store anything here it will be smoked!!

Just a few off the top of my head.  I am sure others can come up with more.

Also a small craigslist refrigerator for drinks and such.

Thanks ,Stan... haven't thought of any signage as of yet ,good idea.

Got the Fridge and Watts are just beyond the wall , run it through and wire-up my outlets and lights , fans and Stereo...gotta have my R&B and Old Rock...
