Another way to find hot/cool spots... Get a can of biscuits... spread them all around and watch how they cook... The doneness will tell you where it's hot and where it's not
Just used an infrared thermometer and checked a steel plate I put in there. The lower thermometer next to the stack read 235 and the steel plate read 235.

The hot spots on this pit depend on how open the stack is. At wide open it’s closer to the middle. At 2/3 closed it’s the first ten inches from the fire box

So far so good. Now if the weather would cooperate it would be even better.

I don’t recall ever firing up a smoker where the humidity has stayed between 80-90%, but it’s made things a little more challenging
That's pretty normal for us in SE Ga.

I like the lower set of thermometers. Shouldn't need a grill probe with those there. The fire box looks like it can be used for direct cook or am I seeing things? Is there another grate lower than the one we can see in the pics?

Ordered about three months ago and this thing is a beast. First off, I’m glad I got the counter weight because the lid weighs a ton and I messed my shoulder up last week or forever, who knows considering that I’m 51 and spent 20 years doing powerlifting.

Drinking beer and seasoning this thing up. Next week I get to cook on it. Why must my work ruin everything?
You definitely put your money where your mouth is, or soon will be, around that fantastic food coming out of that beast! Quite an investment, but it will last decades.

For that buy, they should have comped you a shirt! :D
