Split between Michigan and Texas
When we moved here the real estate agent described the area as the “woodchuck capital of the world”. At the time we chuckled wondering what exactly that meant. Now it seems everyone around here cuts trees and sells firewood. My neighbor is no exception. This weekend he brought me a load of cherry and hickory wood and promised the next apple tree he cuts down is mine. All this for a few ABT’s.

At the time, I don’t think the agent thought it was a selling point but what a great neighbor.

I’m new to smoking and I’m very excited to try the cherry wood but can’t quite decide what meat this weekend smoke should be.

Nice score but I would suggest waiting for the wood to season before using it.

Now thats really being neighborly of him. Like Jerry said you have to let it cure or dry out before you can smoke with it too. Theres alot ofolks here that would just love to have a neighbor like that.

Like pineywoods said let it season then smoke with it. It's good on chicken, turkey, pork, beef (cherry wood) and hickory is good for pork butt, ribs. I've tried both woods but like apple the most. I hope this helps.
