i am looking for a smoker that uses wood or charcoal in decent shape in the area of bloomsburg, danville, milton pennsylvania. not particular about shape but want a medium sized like a barrel smoker or when similar to link in the amount of space it has. I am looking for metal only.
i just figured buying used saves money and recycles. Budget is flexible.
Any other info that would be good to add let me know thanks.

Look into building a UDS smoker. Tons of bang for your bucks and no welding or special tools required!

i like the idea although most seem pretty small. i am thinking maybe a double barrel smoker. i just look at it and it does not seem like the barrel would take much heat or last long without rusting or just falling apart. we use a metal barrel for burning and they dont last to long.

Well, in mine I have 2 22" Weber racks. So I can do probably 4 briskets or six pork butts at a time. As far as durability? I've been running mine for a couple of years now and there's been zero deterioration on a whatsoever. It's not really like a burning barrel in that it doesn't get nearly as hot so it doesn't degrade like a burning barrel does plus they don't collect water in them so that helps them a bunch too.

The fire basket in the bottom of the barrel does not ever actually come in contact with the bottom of the barrel so it doesn't do any damage to it.

i understand i may have to do that i did not think i could get 6 pork butts or 4 brisket i was thinking it would only do 2-3 of each.
i was thinking of doing 2 brisket, 2 butt, 2 racks and some chicken/turkey quarters at once and then freezing them for later. but i could just smoke more

i also had an idea of cutting a small part of the side of 2 barrels off and having someone weld them together so i could do 4 of those weber racks.

i actually have a double sided stainless steel fridge that came from a restaurant but the doors are broken and and i dont know if i could fix it to work properly but that would work great and do a ton of meat.

Here's a different way to use two barrels. I love this smoker.

Welding two barrels together vertically would make for a nightmare trying to get food in and out of.

If I got someone to weld two barrels on top of one another could I put a door in the front?

If not could I put two barrels on top of one like he did? If so would enough heat and smoke get to it to give it that small me and flame flavor?

You could let your imagination run wild :-) That's the beauty of these kind of rigs. The materials are cheap. So if you end up making a design you don't like, you just toss the barrels and start over. All the parts that you've used will come right off the old barrels and go onto your new ones!
