Anyone ever try ribs in the Instant Pot? I would love some tips and tricks...

Before I am lambasted for the question, I must mention I live in Montana and the high temp this week will not get above 0, so there is no way I could fire up my smoker.

I putz'ed around a bit with pressure cooker ribs before during the last cold spell--which was longer and a bit colder. Any discussion would be appreciated.

I've never used an instapot but if I had a hankering for ribs and couldn't get to my smoker I'd probably throw them in the oven and follow whatever method you use when you smoke them

I’ve cold smoked ribs once then into the Instant Pot. 4 hours cold smoke is not enough time, next time I’ll try 10-12 hours cold smoke. I did not have a PID when I tried cold smoking so it was a pain, first I had to wait until ambient temperature was below 32F then I had to manually turn the smoker on/off trying to keep the smoker temperature below 40F and above 32F. Now that I have a PID keeping the smoker at fridge temperatures will be much easier. We find 25 minutes under pressure and 15 minutes slow release gives us bite off the bone. Sometimes we’ll give them a quick shot under the broiler. For the ease and speed we like the Instant Pot, 10 out of 10. For flavour compared to the smoker 7 out of 10. Not as tasty compared to the smoker but the convenience of cooking ribs in an hour or slightly less is worth something. Where the Instant Pot really shines are in dishes that we would normally use a Slow Cooker, things like stew. Before we both retired we would do all the slicing and dicing the night before, come home from work toss everything in the Instant Pot and be sitting down within an hour for supper.

I did some pork ribs in the instapot one time. Didn't really care for them that much. I followed the recipe in the book that came with it but if I were to do them again I would have to do something different. Maybe brown them first.
