Well last winter the snow crushed the roof of my gazebo. Now the wind has ripped the roof off the new one.
A very strong thunderstorm went thru our neighbourhood yesterday doing a lot of damage. My brand new gazebo had the roof torn to shreds. My MES was moved over 4 feet and tipped over. The MES is not on wheels either. The worse thing of all was we had a 6 foot diameter glass topped table that got smashed into thousands of pieces.
Some of the destruction.

Note the round pattern of the fallen glass on the ground. It took only one hit by ½ - ¾ inch piece of hail and pow It was all on the ground, no piece bigger than ¼ inch. It looked like there were larger pieces but if you touched them they crumbled.

Any item that was sitting on the table when it broke dropped straight down it was as if the table top just disappeared and everything dropped right down to the cement.
Of course we had some of our best dishes on the table at the time which got smashed as well. My BBQ grill (propane) was on high with both burners lit and the flame was blown right out.
A closer look at the glass

It was not a fun cleanup.
I have always said a glass top table is a really stupid idea. My Wife insisted that if they sell them they must be safe. Yeah right! I fought her on the subject but lost the battle so we forked out $250.00 just for that stupid table. It always made me nervous when I placed anything glass or heavy on it.
Of course now the story going round (no suprise to me ) is that its my fault it got broken.

Quote. If You knew it would break then you should not have let me buy it. Unquote
You just can’t win with these things fellows so don’t even try.

Bummer maybe you need to build a bunker next. Actually maybe time for a solid structure thats anchored down

Been there, man that sux.......We've had 3 metal framed gazebos destroyed in the past 4 years. Now I have a temporary WOOD framed 10' x 20' kitchen tied into my shed and deck. Nothing moves now without a strong enough wind to destroy the house and all.

With winds like you must have had, you may need to get something a bit heavier duty as well. It took us awhile to realize that the metal store-bought gigs won't hold up around here.

Good luck, hope it comes back together for ya.

Eric

Yeah to make matters worse, we just sold our trailer which was parked right next to the gazebo. If It had been there the gazebo would have been ok and the hail would not have hit the glass. Been trying to sell the trailer since Feb and yesterday the guy hauled it away about 3 hours before that wind came up. At least we have the cash now from the trailer sale to fix the damage.

I can quite easily extend the porch roof out about 8 feet which would give me a 12 x 40 foot protected area for my stuff. Just been to lazy to do it so far.

Man, that really blows (no pun intended....well maybe just a little).

Where abouts are you?

My wife's family lives in Northeast Texas and always wants us to move down there.

After almost 40 years in Alaska my back is really starting to feel the aches and pains associated with all the abuse I have put it through and I am seriously contemplating a warmer climate.

Of course, it does not hurt that the Mrs. has agreed to allow me to have an outside kitchen if we do relocate....but now I am having second thoughts about it..... Naw....maybe I will just show her this post and convince her that she should let me build it right...regardless of the cost.... and not worry about it!

.

as far as it being your fault....try this line on her....

"Why is it the only time you let me think for myself...is when I am in trouble?".... Let me know if it works out as well for you as when I use it.

Sorry to hear / see the damage to your Smoke area. I am glad no one got injured. I hope your equipment made it through with minor damage if any. Looks like you already have a plan for a stronger Smoke area. Take Care.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Did your smoker survive without damage??? How about the wife after that comment???? LMAO J/K

It's not like you plan for these things until after you go through them. How could you have known? I have a glass top table from 8 years ago, it's fine (knock on wood).

Man Roger, what did you do to tick off Mother Nature? I think if I were you I'd build a brick smokehouse, and maybe go with a concrete table next time.

Hey I just realized, I think we might be brothers-in-law. I must've married you're wife's sister.

Just glad no one got hurt.
