Anyone else have this problem with the spouse?
It started out when I got laid off from work that we would take turns cooking; her one night and me the next. Fine, I'm laid off and have all day to smoke whatever I want. Smoker Dream! Well, I made one joke too many. When she would cook she would ask me how it was, no matter what she cooked I would say, "Not bad but it isn't smoked"

. Even if it was something Italian like pasta I would crack this little joke.
Well now everynight I get, "Well what ya smokin for tomorrow nights dinner"? In other words she's upset (would like to have used another p word) and I have been smokin almost everyday. Not that this bothers me I'm enjoying every minute of the tbs (thin blue smoke) but I don't need her mad...
Any suggestions??? Ack!!!

Thanx gang,

Wife doesn't mind too much here, but the doctor is not happy with all these bacon wrapped smokes. Maybe I should have the doc over for dinner...

Yeah. " You know honey, I have been really cravin your (fill in here)" When she cooks it, brag on how much you've missed her cooking.

Good luck!

Hmmm...got a long handled shovel? LOL!!!!!!! That's a pretty deep rut there...

Aaaah, let's see here...my situation is a little different. I don't tell my wife that I'm smoking the smaller meats (like steaks), and when she starts eating I get comments and questions about the meat, but it's all good words.

Just tonight, I smoked Rib steaks over charcoal and cherry chips in a can mod for my charcoal grill. I used a new (to us) dry rub which she purchased just yesterday (Weber Burgundy Beef). She asked me which marinade I used on the steaks. I said: "huh?" She said I must have marinated them, because the juices on top were so flavorful. Nope, just "your" rub and cherry smoke and sear with charcoal.

Anyway, I guess in your situation, try to enjoy what she cooks too...we all take pride in what we accomplish with food. I know my kids are having alot tougher time eating dinner at night now, because we just started into the summer heat...though they will eat alot more if I do a smoke, even if it's a cold smoke/sear like tonight. I sneak one in on her from time to time, and she still enjoys it, even if she doesn't know right away that it's smoked.

My wife knows that the big cuts will definately be smoked, so she knows what to expect.

I know that we all would rather eat smoked foods at my house, though my wife has trouble with her gut sometimes and she can't tolerate it very well. Not always, but sometimes.

Does your wife really like Bbq, or does she just eat it because it's what you made for dinner? If she doesn't like it that much, maybe you could go for less smoke time during the cook? I've done that a few times recently, and got good reviews from the family... I can tolerate a alot more smoke than my wife and kids, and I enjoy it that way, too. So, I have to keep the family in mind while I'm doing my thing.

Anyway, lengthy there, but don't know if any of this applies to you or not.

Eric

Take the high road and tell her: Honey when you wear those tight jeans you are smokin! oh no I mean those thin blue jeans.... errr I mean. Ah just shut up and take her to dinner!

Speaking of which, I just went to the doctor and have gained 20lbs. in the last 4 months.. he asked why, I told him from pickling and smoking so much meats.. he admonished me, said that I'd have to cut it in half... he'd take the other half.. 'tis better to give than receive.. lol! So next batch of summer sausage I'll drop off a few pounds at the reception desk and see how long it takes for the smoky smell to get back to the two doctors.. I'm sure they'll both be up at the front desk in minutes! lol!

LMAO ... I can honesty say that after meeting Sandy (your LOVELY wife) that if you pulled that she'd give you a beat down, fer sure!!

I think you should try to let her cook alittle more and praise her efforts. The flower thing works but only on some. My wife would cook the flowers and feed them to me. The looking for a job is sounding better all the time.

After reading all the different comments, I can figure that it's a mixture of a bunch of variables here.
1. The one child that we have left in the house eats more when I smoke it.
2. The other five that have moved out show up more often when they find out that I'm smokin something. In her eyes, when a child moves out, they're not suppose to come back I guess. Even for dinner.
3. We never go out any more cause of being laid off and that we like my smoked ribs and stuff better than what we can get at a local resturaunt.
4. I've tried to brag her cookin up to her but she just looks at me and says that I make a terrible liar.
5. I've laid off the jokes with her and we ended up going to counseling cause she thought I was ignoring her or there was someone else in my life.
6. Flowers; forget it. They would be the wrong kind and/or color.

What it boils down to is I will probably put a cot in the garage.
She just hollered down at me (i'm on the basement puter) and wants me to make and smoke a homemade pizza

. Whatever...
Oh well, can't win.

Well, thanx for the replies. I'll just keep smokin...

Hello Pops6927,
From one Meathead to another that’s a nice set up you have in your "Arsenal". I was a Meat cutter for some 20 plus years. At one time I had all the tools in my collection of meat equipment that I could have opened up my own Butcher Shop. Sadly I am no longer in that position. That’s another (long) story. I would like to get a meat grinder and sausage stuffer. As far as the grinders go, I never have used the Cabela's brand. Now that you have used it is it any good? I’ve always used either Hobart or Butcher Boy. The Northern Tool 15 lb. S/S Stuffer looks good. I’ve always seen them in cast Iron. How do you like your sausage stuffer?

Ok we all know that its too late now for giving you advice because the damage is already done.

You need to remember for the next time you try to be humourous with your "But it isn't Smoked joke" ..... The first law of Holes.

If you're in one..... QUIT DIGGING!!

The only answer to "Honey do I look fat in these? " Is, do I look stupid in these?

To How old do you think I am? The answer is, I don't know but I am old enough to know not to answer that question.
