I normally have the best luck calling airlines and hotels direct, to eliminate the middle man.
Same goes rental cars, am I missing out on something that might save me a few bucks?

I do the same thing, except for what discounts I can get through work.
I used to use those places that will shop around for you but ran into issues particurarly with hotels. When you do run into an issue the hotel is no help since you didn't book through them and you will never get in touch with the discount site. Happened one too many times for me to not go direct.

Depends. If there's a Hilton owned hotel where I'm going I book directly through the Hilton Honors program otherwise I use Expedia, been a member since they started and they are very easy to deal with if there's any issues which has been very rare.

That is the very same reason I started booking through the hotel.
Thank you.
Dan.

I'm going to join the Hilton Honor program because we might be staying at one of their properties.

Thank you.

My wife uses Expedia, but I always seem to find better deals by contacting the hotel and airline directly

Thank you.
Dan.
Oddly, I've found just the opposite. I'm a Hilton Honors member also, but when I compare, a site like
Expedia is usually less expensive.

Marriott Bonvoy or Hilton Honors for when I want a nice room. The only exception is if I'm gonna blow 300 bucks a night on something with history. I no longer do that. I made a reservation last night near the Outer Banks with Marriott

Red Roof Inn when I want a cheap place to do a staycation night.

Car rentals are always through the Enterprise or Hertz site.

Priceline and Kayak USED to be they way to do it. Hotels and airlines and Enterprise figured out that they just post up what those sites offered at least 10 years ago. They are no longer a deal.

We always book everything our selves. One huge benefit is if anything gets hose and changes or cancelations are needed there is no middle man. Also go for room switches if there is something about the one you got and you dont like it. etc...
