Is this forum always this slow or is it just the off season?

I am new to this smoking thing and I need some advice and more material to absorb :D

First off the forum is not slow. There are a lot of very educated people here with great knowledge. You want find a bunch of people. chiming in just to see thier name. you will only get comments on specific questions.
