Hello All,

Life made me take a hiatus from smoking for a few years and during this time I had to relocate from California to Denver (Castle Rock).

Now that I am settled in, I am ready to start my smoker back up but I am not finding any where to get a good price on meat beyond the local grocery store, Sam's Club or Costco. Back in California I was able to go to Cash&Carry and get my ribs, pork butts, brisket, tri-tip, etc... for a good price. Is there a Cash&Carry equivalent in the Denver area or any other place that sells meat at a decent price?

Thanks in advance.

They probably figure they can jack all the meat prices up out there because of all the grass everyone is smoking they will pay it lol.

Jk you got a Costco or Sams out there?

I usually get mine at Kroger’s or Costco out here but I’m sure the market is a little different from Knoxville to Denver.

Your local Kroegers is King Scoopers which I actually went and looked up and it is in Denver Colorado. Their meat is good quality, and pricing is pretty good <Or it is here in the Midwest where I am>.

Otherwise believe it or not, for things like brisket and butts..Walmart's quality isn't bad either. Actually to date, the best pork butt I did was from Walmart. I've googled up the briskets and Walmart has apparently been alright. The biggest issue you'll encounter at any place that isn't a cash and carry type store is finding the right size. Also check for resturaunt suppliers open to the public; or a local butcher but if they are any thing like here..local butchers are 2-3 times the cost.

Denver, being a "mile high" city only has cows that can jump over the moon. That rare a cow is expensive, plus the added cost of preventing them from jumping away before butchering.

Just saying!

Thank you everyone. I will stick with my Sam's Club for now.

We do not frequent Costco due to its location and the meat at my local Wal-Mart and King Soopers are not always the best as many times I go in the meat is is turning grey.

I wouldn't call it a "deal" per say, but if you want to spoil yourself and your loved ones check out @cocraftbutchers. They source Wagyu Beef from Laramie, WY. Follow me in IG @hungrylikethewolven for updates on my next cook (beef ribs).

sam's meat & deli, aurora co 80013

i know its s bit of a drive from castle rock, but not that bad. i used to buy from them all the time when i lived in denver.

We just got a Lucky's market in Wheat Ridge and they have great prices for choice beef and will accommodate several different cuts. Just took home a 2 packs of 4 x plate ribs.

I usually buy from Costco...there is one just up the road from you at Park Meadows for like a fifteen minute drive or can make the trek east to Parker for another one. I love Sam's Meats mentioned above, but they are expensive but will custom cut or order anything. I have ordered blood sausage from them. there is also a Restaurant Depot just south of Arapahoe and I-25 on Clinton. Other than that, slim pickings....

Not sure what your storage situation is, but there are a lot of ranchers east of Castle Rock running cattle. May be worth your time to investigate where you may be able to buy directly. One option: https://www.theelbertmeatco.com/ Personally, I was able to pickup a quarter from a friend for similar pricing to the grocery store and the quality has been far superior to what you find and King Soopers or Safeway.

Other option is Tony's Market on 85. Their counter is expensive but they do bulk package sales from time to time if you're on their email list.

Thank you, everyone. Life has taken some turns so, for now, I will be using Sam's Club and King Soopers (when it is on sale). I will try the stores you all have suggested for special family events.
