What's the difference between a 1st and 2nd generation MES 30?

My darling wife is feeding my obsession with BBQ equipment and recently picked up a MES 30. I have seen a lot of mention about the gen 1 and gen 2 MES smokers, but I am unclear as to which one is which, and what the bottom line differences are between the two. Can anyone help me out here? I'm sure there is info somewhere, but my google-fu seems to be failing me. Thanks!
