Forecast is calling for rain here for 3 straight days starting tomorrow. I need some inspiration. Any ideas? I'm thinking I might just have to roll the smoker to the garage and ride it out!

I've fought the rain all winter, which cramped my style. I had fewer smokes this last Winter than in the previous three years, but my Kettle got a nice workout.

Looks like the rain is done for a while, so two untrimmed racks of spares are going in the WSM this weekend. Still undecided on sides, but got what I needed for Gold, Sweet White, and Yam potato salad, my own concoction.

I'd like to do a brisket. I've got 2 in the freezer but overnight smokes in the rain might be a little much.

Thought about smoked bacon wrapped scallops and maybe a couple spatched yard birds. Fairly simple and not real time consuming

I picked up a real nice Choice packer & was going to have the neighbors over, but one of the neighbors bought a bunch of Prime chuck burgers & so we are all going to his house. I guess I'll save the brisket for Father's Day!!

I don't know yet, because this weekend will be taken up with a family visit, sometime. Two of Linda's kids that I've never met before will be visiting from California, possibly along with other people, plus some other kids from around here. Linda has a very complicated family tree.

Anyway I'm ready with an offset and a Weber 22, plus Lin's big propane rig. Yesterday I stocked up on brats, hot dogs, etc. so I can fire off any of that on short notice. Otherwise I wait to see what interest + time there may be among my guests.

The old lady threw a curve ball at me last night and now wants to do a seafood boil. Crab legs shrimp corn potatoes sausage etc...Guess ill be making a trip to the store later to see what's on sale

I will have to live thru you all this weekend, worked 10 hrs yesterday and headed to see a very sick aunt early this morning a couple hundred miles away, everybody stay safe and happy Mothers Day

Sorry about your aunt Mike. Hope all goes well.
For mom's day I offered Surf and Turf. But she said no. We just had steak. So it's chicken two ways. I found a interesting marinade:
  • 2 lbs. Chicken Breasts Tenders, or Thighs
  • 1/3 - 1/2 cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil depending on preference
  • 3 Tablespoons Fresh Lemon Juice
  • 3 Tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons Balsamic Vinegar
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 3 Garlic Cloves minced or 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper
Marinate for at least 5 hours. Mine has been soaking since yesterday afternoon. Then grill.
I'm also going to brine some breasts for a hour. Then BBQ them with BBQ sauce.

Sounds good! I am usually lazy and marinate in Kraft Zesty Italian dressing.

ended up making a batch of smoked jerky in the morning and a reverse seared tri tip in the evening. both were great

Unfortunately no smoking but the rain held off long enough for me to get some grilling in. Did a whole mess of burgers dogs brats ABT's and stuffed mushrooms. Turned out well and all the moms and grandmothers that came over were happy!
