Looking for advice on what smoker to buy. Currently have a cheap masterbuilt vertical propane but not to found of it. Thinking between charcoal or pellet and not afraid of spending big money. Fairly new and my cooks generally are for me and maybe a small party

This is pretty vague. I would say you need to do some research and at least determine what type of smoker you are looking for. Drum, cabinet, offset, pellet etc. I have a variety of different smokers, but I got most of them on clearance sales. I got a kamado, barrel, WSM, kettle, and a pellet smoker. I cooked on all of them and I really liked the barrel. I recently spent a fair chunk of money on a Hunsaker drum smoker and I have been very pleased with it.

I have had my Yoder YS640 for a little over a year. Only one so-so cook and that was my inexperience with cooking potatoes in a stew. They just came out with WiFi (they call it YFi) and a built in probe using Fireboard tech. It has always put out great meat and a good bark. Get the GrilleGrates and you can sear steaks. Just my $0.02.

I don't hear of to many people complaining about their WSMs.

For great flavor, short learning curve, year-round supply of fuel, and hands off ability for overnight low n slow cooks or single day hot n fast, the WSM is hard to beat. They are a tad overpriced IMO, but last for decades.

2 WSM’s in my corral. They work. Super simple to assemble and operate. I actually have more fun with side pit stick burners. Owned many basic side pit smokers over the years. A good reverse flow is hard to beat as well. I own a Lang 36”. She’s a fuel hog but does a great job. Never been a fan of pellet smokers. Big Green Egg can give you a good cook but is overpriced imo. Not tryin to start a debate about it. It’s all personal preference. Have fun with whatever you choose.
