Hey folks,I also tossed a similar question to this on the "charchol smokers location on this forum. Here is my question, it is time to step up from the old, small and limited Brinkman (one of the low end units). I am looking at the WSM and the Komodo Joe. The later is over twice the cost but is it worth it? Any input or thoughts would be appreciated.ThanksSteve

Can't comment on the joe, but I've had an 18" WSM for 5 years and absolutely no issues and it works great! Easy to control temps. I know a guy that uses them in competitions. He just hit grand champ recently.

Well I have the primo XL, and I previously had an offset New Bruensfel (sp?) smoker. I could do amazing things with the offset and find it much more difficult with the primo (great grill though). I think it depends on your focus. Do you want it to smoke more or grill?.

Many of the offsets have grates over the heat box to give you a grilling option. For me its been harder keeping the temp on the primo real low.

WSM for the win!

I run my 22.5" WSM year round (covered porch), and it never lets me down. Ton's of room for sides and extra goodies, super stable temps., easy on the pocketbook, ....  now if I could just teach it to fetch me a cold beer out of the fridge! LOL
