What say you to chicken livers?

I love fried chicken livers, especially with gravy to dip them in.

There was a chicken shack near us that sold a liver/gizzard combo with a slice of white bread. Mom ate the gizzards and I ate the livers.

Here in NC, the Greek-owned restaurants serve them deep fried with sauteed mushrooms and a wine sauce over a slice of bread.

Hahaha Funny thread Jeff! There are some great comments here and interesting to see the diversity in taste. My parents loved fried chicken livers so I've tried em several times over the years and I just can't. No way.

But I can eat them fried gizzards until I fall over - make it make sense :emoji_laughing:

Have not had liver or this stuff in a long time but my family laughs to this day how much gizzard I ate as a kid. I really like liver in sausage, like braunschweiger. To all you opposed, you'd probably like it if no one told you what it was. Getting tougher to find good stuff these days. Made a batch awhile ago with beef liver and was ok but tempted to try chicken since so cheap and easy to get. The liver sausage info is ALL over the place. Some say chicken is best as mild some say no. Some say boil/some scald/some raw.

I've never been an organ eater. Not sure why, just wasn't raised that way. I have had calf fries a few times but not crazy about them.

Back when I was a kid, my Dad and I would go change ditch water where we raised hay. On the way ( now & then) we would stop and get gizzards or livers from a local store. Always loved em. Not only delicious... but fond memory for me.
When I was a kid there was a diner attached to a truck stop that had the best gizzards I've ever had.

Love chicken livers but dont think to buy them for some reason. Cant remember if the wife likes them...I just know if I get a bird with giblets the livers are mine.

I just press them in flour with salt and pepper mixed in and pan fry to get a little crust on both sides (if a liver has a side!) then a squirt of Texas Pete before going in my pie-hole.

I was very upset with the last turkey I bought...no giblets :emoji_angry: I was already salivating for those big livers and the bastits screwed me. I think I even complained to the company...its not like they were going to ship me some livers, but they didn't even offer me coupon or something.

What the hell are they thinking? People STILL make giblet gravy!

On the other hand I cant stand beef liver. I've gone back and tried a few times and nope...nasty.

But last night, I had a lengua taco at OKC's Big Truck Taco before a Joanne Shaw Taylor concert.

Just don't think about eating tongue and it was really dam good.
A month or so ago I was loading my beef out at the processor. They slipped me the tongue (pun intended) even though I said I did not want it when doing my cut sheet.

I told them to either keep it if one of the employees wanted it, otherwise throw it in the trash, 'cause that is what I was going to do with it. The guy took it back into the walk-in freezer like he had a prize. Same with the heart.

Just shows the variety of the parts of animals we are willing to eat on an individual basis. I don't do tongues, testicles, liver (aside from liver sausages), heart, kidneys, eyeballs, or brains ......... that pretty much covers it, but to each his/her own.

Lots of great discussion! Surprised my little question spawned also much.

But you use gut to stuff sausage?
There is a few more things from slaughtered animals that some cultures relish. A long ago co-worker was in China and his host was going to treat him to cobra gall bladder
When I lived in Evansville IN a big item on the local restaurants was a brain sandwich. Never worked up the courage to try it.

I agree. Thanks for letting us roll with it. Enjoy your chicken livers.
