Looks like it would work just fine for cold smokes. And you can get your rims repaired while you wait...lol...

He has an account here as well... Fiddler-whatever number is in the email addy.

This "smoke generator" thingie was discussed some time back here and someone had one and was gonna post results. It either killed them or they din't get around to it? ;{)

I myself am dubious of the quality of smoke this thing is gonna make.

I think it's a pretty good cold smoking concept. A buddy has 4 30 gallon drums, which one or two would be perfect for cold smoking. Gonna try to hit a couple hardware stores to see I can get the parts to make one. If not I know where they sell them already made

I did some of my own research on smoke generators. The PorkyPas unit was the first one I found that looked promising, but at $50 (at that time) for something of "dubious smoking" abilities (thanks Richtee) seemed a bit pricey.

As I continued to dig for info on the web, I came across a thread in another smoking forum that posted plans for a unit similar in theory, but more well thought out. So, if you are interested in building your own smoke generator, you might as well have plenty of information to work with....the link to the plans is http://www.procast-designs.com/smoker/

And the link to the originally posted thread is http://tinyurl.com/3t7yg8

I see that that thread has expanded a few pages since I last checked it....might be even more ideas for you to work with...

Hope this helps,

rich..........do you remember who that was that was building one.......i would like to find that thread..........he was using a air compressor........i remember the thread........just no idea of how to formulate a search for it

I looked too... the search function here leaves a bit to be desired... I still say the thing will belch white goop for at least half the time. But... I'll post a retraction if it can be proved otherwise.

Hey guys fiddler was the maker as said earlier but griz bought one. He got as far as cooking with it 2hrs then his dog ate the pump. Said he would get back with the results. That was October of 07.

Hi Group
I was wondering what happened to griz also. Since that time I have made some changes I have changed the air inlet connection. I have added a wood knob to prevent burning of your fingers. I also offer 2 larger ones. One that will smoke for 6 to 8 hrs and The BIG KAHUNA which will hold 1 ½ lbs of pellets that will smoke for up to 14 Hrs on one load. I have had very good feedback so far. I want to say that this is a simple design and with a little effort can be made from some plumbing fittings. I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM USING GALVANIZED. I make these for someone that doesnâ€[emoji]8482[/emoji]t have the time or the resources to make one and to make a few bucks.
I must have done it right someone has copied my idea and is selling them on ebay also.

Hia Fid. No bad mouthing intended. But i shoulda been born in Missouri. The "Show Me" state. Again... I'll eat crow if required. But I'll buy one of those contraptions first and smoke it ;{)

Rich
I would be happy to have you give it a try and give it a review. It certainly is not a traditional type of smoker but I think it an easy way for someone to introduce smoke to the smaller smoker without having to worry about the chips catching on fire or not having enough heat for producing smoke. I know that producing a quality smoked product is quite an art in itself with all the cures and temps that are involved in the process plus the time that is invested in the process. I enjoy trying different things and trying to improve on what has been done before. I believe this unit can help in simplifying the process.
