what do you think about covering a Brinkmann Vertical smoker with wood on the exterior?

I have a square brinkmann vertical smoker and I am thinking of covering the exterior with wood,  putting a little pitched roof on top with a single smoke stack comming out to look like a chimney.  I think it would help me maintain more consistant temps since so much heat is lost through the thin walls before it even gets to the top rack. It would also make for a more rugged smoker and look neat.  At first I was just thinking plywood but now I think I will use 1x3 or 1x4 cedar.  I would keep the original location of the bottom vents but cover the top ones and put a single stack on top in the middle pointing strait up,  this would solve the problem of having a cross wind through the original top vents.

Any thoughts on this?

I would worry about fire. I have seen some of these smokers clad in tile backer material (hardibacker), I would use that before I would use wood. Wood has absoulutly no insulative value, it actuall is a great thermal bridge.

How about cement board, then the cedar over the top of that. I like the idea and it sure would look cool.

yeah the cement board would probably be a better idea and then the cedar.  As of now the outside does not get hot enough to be a danger but as soon as I slapped wood on it the heat may build up to much for the wood so I'll check into some cement board first

What about ceramic tile?  I have a couple of boxes of left over 12" square ceramic tile,  that would be even better since I would not have to buy it
.    Maybe attatch it on the outside with Gorillla Glue? think it would stick?  Only problem is it is white but I could spray it I am sure

I like the idea of having a smoke shack with a roof & smoke stack. It would really look cool. I don't like the idea of gluing ceramic tile on the outside. Course that's just me.
