I made a few small batches with frozen breasts. 2.5# cleaned weight for $13. 1# finished weight. Thought maybe a better price or cut. Can't seem to find fresh turkey breast or tenderloin (rarely, $7.50/lb). Honestly thought maybe whole bird when cheap and make ground, etc.,etc from the other parts.

What do most people use as a meat source. Would like to stick with whole muscle. Can't seem to find much info. I always have made venison so not really a price tag. Thoughts???

Breast Lobes sliced With the Grain into 1/4"slices work. You can cut the slices into strips if desired...JJ

Thanks!
I ended up finding a whole turkey for $0.49 lb. Bought whole bird for $12 and ended up with 6 pounds of cleaned breast strips. Wings and legs are in the brine to be smoked. Don't buy turkeys often, but I think that was a steal!

Ended up with about 4# finished product. Came out fabulous. Tried to cut some thicker pieces and ended up losing some thin slices to the dogs. Ended up baking the other parts and got a lot of food for $12. Was an enjoyable St. Pappy's Day smoke! Sat with a few neighbors six feet apart in driveway.
